href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/15\/netflix-fans-cancelling-weekend-plans-binge-best-drama-a-long-time-22733074\/\">Adolescence <\/a>has blown audiences away and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-add-most-terrifying-show-parents-ever-tomorrow-22712558\/\">left them horrified in equal measure<\/a>, with many calling it one of the best releases of the year so far.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous viewers were left shattered by the time they finished the series, and the ending also features a hidden detail that makes the conclusion even more heartbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>The drama stars <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/13\/meet-15-year-old-star-netflixs-adolescence-hailed-lionel-messi-acting-22723081\/\">15-year-old Owen Cooper<\/a> as Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who\u2019s accused of murdering a teenage girl.<\/p>\n<p>Each episode was directed using an <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/12\/netflix-drama-adolescences-trick-isnt-a-gimmick-vital-22714138\/\">\u2018immersive\u2019 one-shot technique<\/a>, with the show boasting magnificent performances from the cast, including <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/15\/7-top-stephen-graham-performances-need-watch-adolescence-22726929\/\">Stephen Graham<\/a> as Jamie\u2019s dad Courtesy of Netflix \u00c2\u00a9 2024\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The drama opens with 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) being arrested by the police (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Adolescence tells the story of a 13-year-old boy called Jamie who\u2019s accused of killing a girl called Katie (Emilia Holliday), a classmate from his school.<\/p>\n<p>The series opens with DI Bascombe leading a raid of Jamie\u2019s home in the early morning, with the police detective informing the teenager while he\u2019s in bed that he\u2019s under arrest on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n<p>As Jamie is taken to the police station, his parents Eddie and Manda (Christine Tremarco) and sister Lisa (Am\u00e9lie Pease) are left in utter despair over what\u2019s happened, and convinced that he couldn\u2019t have possibly done anything wrong.<\/p>\n<p>At the police station, Jamie goes through a medical check before his interrogation with the police begins while he\u2019s accompanied by his dad, who he\u2019s chosen to be his \u2018appropriate adult\u2019 as he\u2019s a minor.<\/p>\n<p>While Jamie claims to have not been close to Katie and denies having any involvement in her death, Luke displays CCTV footage that shows the boy following the girl and then attacking her, revealing that he did have a violent altercation with her on the night of her death.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"323\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nichesitetool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SEI_243604806_fbb304.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22721951\" alt=\"Adolescence. We wanted the journey to finish where it began,’ Stephen told Netflix’s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/adolescence-finale-ending-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tudum<\/a>. ‘This is where the person who Jamie became was created.’<\/p>\n<p>The actor also revealed that for the very last take of the show \u2013 with Eddie crying in Jamie’s room \u2013 the production team put photos on the wardrobe of Stephen with his wife Hannah Walters and their children, alongside a note that read: ‘We love you. We’re so proud of you,’ which were off-camera.<\/p>\n<p>‘If you watch the scene closely, he looks over to the right-hand side, and he spots the pictures and the notes. It broke him open,’ said director Philip.<\/p>\n<p>‘The other takes before that were very different. They were all still incredibly emotional. But that last take, which we used, was real, raw, and unexpected from him as well.’<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adolescence ending’s secret hidden detail<\/h2>\n<p>As Adolescence ends with its final episode, the song Through the Eyes of a Child by Aurora plays, which includes lyrics that go: \u2018World is covered by our trails. Scars we cover up with paint. Watch them preach in sour lies. Her presence is always there,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers were left shaken by the song choice in the final episode, with one called @Chels_x0x writing on X: \u2018The song and scene at the end hits so hard. And it just hurt my heart, basically,\u2019 the actor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I just wondered, what kind of a society and what kind of a world are we living in where this kind of thing has happened, not once, not twice, three, four, five times?
