Talk about a jumpscare: The opening track from Playboi Carti’s long-awaited, forever-delayed, hugely anticipated new album “Music” begins with a raucous, ridiculously fun industrial beat that signals an album worth waiting for. What’s Carti saying on the song? I have no idea \u2013 but the beat feels totally divine and evil in equal measure, always the best possible way for a Carti song to feel. If anything, it reminds me of hearing Yeezus for the first time and being totally taken aback by the rush of static at the beginning of “On Sight.”<\/p>\n
Chappell Roan – “The Giver”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
Chappell first performed this horned-up country anthem on SNL last year, and I immediately knew I had to have a finished version to play on repeat for the rest of my life. Now, the song has finally arrived, and it was totally worth the wait \u2013 an old-school country anthem with a deliriously sapphic twist.<\/p>\n
HAIM – “Relationships”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
This seven-year-old song is the first salvo from Haim\u2019s fourth album, and it offers classic Haim: should-we-break-up philosophising, smooth R&B, and a divine recitation of the phrase \u201cfucking relationships!\u201d<\/p>\n
LE SSERAFIM – “Come Over”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
Le Sserafim tap into English Riviera<\/em><\/em>-era Metronomy style indie-pop for their latest track, a slick burst of sass and wit. <\/p>\nJADE – “FUFN (Fuck You For Now)”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
All Jade\u2019s singles have been exceptional, and \u201cFYFN\u201d is no exception, a eurodance confection that\u2019s catchy and bratty.<\/p>\n
Ty Segall – “Fantastic Tomb”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
Ty Segall is a perpetually reliable figure in indie-rock, and his latest track \u2013 a chugging blues-rock track with shades of Hot Chocolate in there \u2013 is sleazy and silly, good old-fashioned fun.<\/p>\n
Mursa Mursa – “JUMP”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been sunny in London the past few days, so Mura Masa had to release a pre-summer club anthem. That\u2019s the rules!<\/p>\n
Kelly Lee Owens, yun\u00e8 pinku – “Dreamstate (yun\u00e9 pinku remix)”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
Yun\u00e8 Pinku, one of the most promising young dance artists going right now, takes the ethereal haze of<\/p>\n
Kelly Lee Owens\u2019 \u201cDreamstate\u201d and turns it into a trance-tinged club track. Two queens linking up to maximise their joint slay etc <\/p>\n
feeble little horse – “This Is Real”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
A three-minute track that feels like a multi-part opera, \u201cThis Is Real\u201d has the unique distinction of not quite feeling real \u2013 more like a really great dream. <\/p>\n
Arooj Aftab, Khruangbin – “raat ki rani – Khruangbin Remix”<\/h3>\n
<\/p>\n
The Khruang Gang take Arooj Aftab\u2019s gorgeous voice and use it as the anchor for this funky, dust-coated groove. <\/p>\n
