Yet this strange series \u2013 which premiered 35 years ago in 1990 \u2013 is unquestionably one of the best TV shows of all time and a technical marvel that pushed the boundaries of what people thought the small screen was capable of.<\/p>\n<p>Nominally the show was a mystery drama of sorts but honestly, that description doesn\u2019t do Twin Peaks justice. By design, it defied categorisation, blending supernatural and surreal elements with the theatrical tropes and cliches that defined so many beloved soaps.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/11\/disturbing-best-tv-show-90s-premiered-35-years-ago-22892670\/\">Read the full review here<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In their review of the show, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/clip\/68686110\/twin-peaks-season-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> said: &#8216;Twin Peaks has many of the elements of a soap opera: it is slow (although not vapid), has a complex plot, melodrama and a plethora of disasters. It&#8217;s the weirdness, the David Lynch trademark,k which is the lure.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buffalonews.com\/news\/twin-peaks-puts-a-twist-on-prime-time-soap\/article_456ab0ee-9d10-505c-bbae-0cfef5ad4d3a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Buffalo News<\/a> added: &#8216;Twin Peaks is refreshing, unsettling, funny and mystifying. If you are the very unusual TV viewer looking for something different, the first three hours should put you in the mood for more.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Of The Return, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/culture\/2017\/9\/6\/16256352\/twin-peaks-the-return-review-miniseries-showtime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vox<\/a> said: &#8216;It stopped feeling like a TV show to me, at some point, and started feeling like a gift.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv\/news\/why-twin-peaks-the-return-was-the-most-groundbreaking-tv-series-ever-w501073\">Rolling Stone<\/a> added: &#8216;What we just witnessed was unmatched in the medium&#8217;s history,&#8217; meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2017\/05\/twin-peaks-return-parts-1-and-2-review\/527565\/\">The Atlantic<\/a> wrote: &#8216;Twin Peaks remains the nightmare fuel it always has been.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2017\/jun\/21\/why-the-new-twin-peaks-is-way-better-than-the-original\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Guardian<\/a> added to the glowing praise, saying: &#8216;The Twin Peaks revival is perfect. I&#8217;m in deep with it. It&#8217;s easily the best series of the year so far.
