There are <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/26\/nintendo-direct-set-around-switch-2-launch-claims-insider-23248792\/\">rumours of a Nintendo Direct<\/a> this month, but so far no confirmation, and yet <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/nintendo\/\">Nintendo<\/a> has just unveiled a new game, via its Nintendo Today! mobile app.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s probably going to become a regular occurrence, with the reveal including a five minute trailer that announces a spin-off called Splatoon Raiders and the Ver. 10.0.0 update for Splatoon 3.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not really clear what Splatoon Raiders is, but it may be another attempt to make a successful single-player mode for the game, even though the franchise is fundamentally multiplayer at heart.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re only guessing that Raiders might be singe-player, as it\u2019s really not clear from the brief trailer, which only confirms that you play as a mechanic helping out the Deep Cut trio investigate a mysterious island.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo has tried multiple times to make single-player content for Splatoon, including via two DLC expansions, but while the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2018\/06\/21\/splatoon-2-octo-expansion-review-underground-extension-7648154\/\">Octo Expansion<\/a> for Splatoon 2 was the best attempt it was super hard and will have done little to expand the franchise\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The latest findings from the Squid Research Lab...\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ALy6oi9UIjc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>Sign up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/game-central\/\"><strong>GameCentral newsletter<\/strong><\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Splatoon is hugely popular in Japan, so it was a surprise not to see it mentioned during the Switch 2 reveal and subsequent Direct. Raiders is emphatically not Splatoon 4 though, with Nintendo continuing to support Splatoon 3, which allows for cross-play with the Switch 1 and is getting improved visuals and performance for the Switch 2.<\/p>\n<p>As well as giving a glow-up to the game on the new console, the update will also add new weapons and badges, with 30 new weapon kits and the return of the Urchin Underpass map from the first game.<\/p>\n<p>The weapon freshness limits will also be increased and there\u2019s a new stat tracking option for keeping an eye on each weapon\u2019s power level.<\/p>\n<p>Ver. 10.0.0 will be available on Thursday, June 12 but there\u2019s no indication of when Splatoon Raiders will be released. All first party Switch 2 games so far have been scheduled for this year, even if some of them don\u2019t have a specific date yet, so it\u2019s tempting to assume Raiders is 2026 or later.<\/p>\n<p>The only major first party title currently confirmed for 2026 is <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/02\/elden-ring-creators-reveal-new-switch-2-exclusive-game-duskbloods-22839161\/\">The Duskbloods<\/a>, although that\u2019s being made by Elden Ring developer FromSoftware and not Nintendo.<\/p>\n<p>Given the Switch 2\u2019s surprisingly lacklustre winter line-up, some fans have speculated that Nintendo is holding back the reveal of a <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/29\/nintendo-switch-2-fans-expecting-secret-christmas-game-summer-game-fest-2025-23278421\/\">secret big name title<\/a> for Christmas.
