data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/spiders\/\">Spider<\/a> Woman dropped.<\/p>\n<p>The film, an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical of the same name, will be released in cinemas on October 10 and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/27\/jennifer-lopez-finally-catches-a-break-gets-rave-reviews-kiss-spider-woman-22439776\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has already been met with rave reviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The On The Floor star, 55, will be starring as Ingrid Luna, a diva actress made up by gay hairdresser Luis Molina (Tonatiuh) while he’s enduring an eight-year jail sentence in Argentina.<\/p>\n<p>Attempting to escape the horror of prison, he dreams up a string of movies starring the imaginary actress, including one where she plays a spider woman who kills her lovers with a kiss.<\/p>\n<p>When he is joined in his cell by Marxist Valentin Arregui Paz (Diego Luna), his time behind bars is transformed as they Jennifer Lopez shines as an iconic actress in the first footage of Bill Condon???s latest movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. In the film - which is based on the stage musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander and Fred Ebb - Lopez plays Ingrid Luna, a fabulous on-screen diva whose most famous role is that of a spider woman, capable of killing her lovers with a kiss. In 1981 during Argentina???s Dirty War, a gay hairdresser named Luis, played by Tonatiuh, who is serving a prison sentence imagines her films to escape the horrors of his present day. When a Marxist, Valentin, played by Diego Luna, is brought into his cell, the two form an unlikely bond over the magic of music and cinema. In the trailer, Lopez can be heard singing one of the musical???s most famous tracks, Where You Are. All in all, the movie musical has 13 numbers, sang by Lopez, Tonatiuh and Luna. Dreamgirls director Condon wrote the screenplay in addition to helming the film. In Variety???s review out of Sundance, critic Peter Debruge called Lopez???s performance ???smoldering,??? adding the star: ???Should draw crowds who might not otherwise have a taste for musicals.??? However, he noted that: ???It???s relative newcomer Tonatiuh who walks away with the show, finding both strength and vulnerability in a character who seems less frivolous with each passing scene.??? Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January, 2025, and is set to be released theatrically on October 10, 2025, via Lionsgate.
