her say on the upcoming reboot rumors, vowing no one else could echo Christian Bale\u2019s efforts in the iconic film.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Harron\u2019s take on Bret Easton Ellis\u2019 satirical novel was released 25 years ago, on April 14, 2000, with the Batman icon leading the star-studded cast as <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/08\/10\/christian-bales-stomach-turning-00s-movie-now-netflix-21395519\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wall Street yuppie-turned possible serial killer Patrick Bateman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, it has been <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/03\/03\/7-actors-rumoured-patrick-bateman-role-american-psycho-remake-20378605\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed the movie will be getting the remake treatment<\/a>, helmed by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, with <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/austin-butler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Austin Butler<\/a> and Patrick Schwarzenegger among those linked to the main role.<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance at the 25-year anniversary screening at Tribeca Film Festival, Mary spoke to <strong>Metro <\/strong>about the reboot speculation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/12\/12\/austin-butler-cast-american-psycho-remake-fans-point-one-major-problem-22172916\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who could possibly step into Patrick\u2019s designer shoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether American Psycho needs to be remade, she told us: ‘I personally don’t, but obviously that’s how I would think.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It could surprise me, and be completely phenomenal, and something I would never have imagined\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/21\/everyones-new-hollywood-obsession-wants-play-serial-killer-remake-21838014\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who she could see taking over from Christian<\/a>, she continued: \u2018No, I really can’t [imagine anyone else as Patrick], because also to me, it’s just fixed in my mind. I can’t reimagine it in that way.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But good luck to them. I’m just glad… It’s amazing to me that people are still this interested 25 years on – and more successful now than it was 25 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>”When it first came out, audiences didn’t know what to think about it. I don’t love that, but it’s like, “Okay, that’s strange.”<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It’s definitely taken on a scary life I would never have imagined. I\u2019ve got to get a bit of money,\u201d because I\u2019ve got American Psycho done, but I remember one time sitting in the make-up trailer and the make-up artists were laughing at me because I was getting paid less than any of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And so that was my motivation after that.
