and &#8216;the best vampire movie in history&#8217; (Picture: Moviestore\/Rex\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But this first version received praise upon its release, ending the year as the second-highest grossing horror film on over $24.9million (\u00a318.45m), only behind A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy\u2019s Revenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Not just an eighties horror classic, but a horror masterpiece,\u2019 decreed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinema-crazed.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/24\/fright-night-1985\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cinema Crazed<\/a> in its review, while critic <a href=\"https:\/\/keithandthemovies.com\/2025\/02\/27\/40-years-later-fright-night-1985\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Keith Garlington<\/a> added: \u2018I wholeheartedly believe Fright Night to be an underrated classic&#8230;It\u2019s driven by a fabulous collection of characters, an unabashedly fun story, some deliciously gory effects, and a steady seasoning of good humor.\u2019<\/p>\n<section class=\"metro-comment-cta\">\n<div class=\"metro-comment-cta__inner\"><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text-wrap\"><title>Comment now<\/title><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text\">Have you seen the original Fright Night? They may look cheesy compared to today&#8217;s standards but the acting, suspense, and story still hold up to the test of time. You can get lost in it.
