Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning is set to be one of the most expensive movies ever made with a giant production budget of $400,000,000 (\u00a3310,174,000).<\/p>\n

Tentatively confirmed as the last outing for Tom Cruise<\/a>\u2019s IMF agent Ethan Hunt, the eighth film dropped its teaser trailer<\/a> in November, packed with heart-stopping stunts<\/a> including the Hollywood star hanging off a plane.<\/p>\n

If that figure is proven accurate, it means The Final Reckoning is officially more expensive than James Cameron<\/a>\u2019s Avatar: The Way of Water and both Marvel\u2019s Avengers<\/a>: Age of Ultron and Endgame.<\/p>\n

Following long production delays<\/a> thanks to Covid and the Hollywood actors\u2019 strike, the film was pushed several times, including nearly a whole year from its release date of June 28, 2024, with costs gradually mounting.<\/p>\n

There have been whispers of this price tag previously, with The Hollywood Reporter suggesting in November that it was \u2018reportedly approaching $400million amid production delays\u2019, which is significantly more than seventh film Dead Reckoning<\/a>\u2019s budget of an estimated $291m (\u00a3225.5m).<\/p>\n

Industry expert Matt Belloni has also now reported that the budget is indeed $400m (\u00a3310m) on The Town<\/a> podcast, the latest source to do so.<\/p>\n

if that\u2019s the case, The Final Reckoning would need to earn a massive $1billion (\u00a3775m) worldwide to break even due to the added costs of marketing and publicity among other Reckoning underwhelmed at the box office two years ago with q worldwide box office haul of $571m (\u00a3443m), although it <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/07\/05\/mission-impossible-dead-reckoning-part-one-review-tom-cruises-best-yet-19072864\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">did garner rave href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/06\/23\/tom-cruise-and-mission-impossible-director-never-formally-introduced-19002224\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-time collaborator Christopher McQuarrie<\/a> \u2013 has suggested he\u2019d be happy to return after all if it does prove a hit.<\/p>\n<p>Not adjusted for inflation, the most expensive movie ever produced remains 2015\u2019s Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $447m (\u00a3346m), followed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018 \u2013 which cost $432m (\u00a3334m) \u2013 and then 2019\u2019s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at $416m (\u00a3322m).<\/p>\n<p>Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning would then slot in here as the fourth-most expensive film of all time, ahead of 2023\u2019s Fast X on $379m target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vanessa Kirby<\/a>, Angela Bassett and Henry Czerny.<\/p>\n<p>Esai Morales is also set to return as villain Gabriel, whose evil assignation for the Entity, an all-powerful AI system looking to rule the world, was revealed in <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/01\/19\/mission-impossible-7-roasted-film-title-change-months-release-20141918\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023\u2019s Dead Reckoning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Mission: Impossible franchise kicked off in 1996 with the first film, based on the 1966 TV series of the dame name, with six more following so far in 2000, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning is released in the UK on May 21 and in the US on
