FilmGal Gadot will reportedly have a beefed-up security team provided by Disney after she received death threats over her pro-Israel stance amid the Israel-Hamas war.
The Israeli actress, 39, stars as the Evil Queen in the upcoming Disney movie Snow White and has faced calls for a boycott from pro-Palestinian activists who have criticised her casting.
The Wonder Woman star has publicly advocated for Israel over the years, while co-star Rachel Zegler has made her support for Palestine clear.
While directly promoting the film as she thanked fans for their ‘love’ in response to the trailer in the summer, before adding on X: ‘And always remember, free Palestine.’
This tweet from Zegler allegedly led to a spike in hate towards Gadot.
It has now been reported that Gadot is facing death threats from fans because of her beliefs, and reports have suggested Disney has upped her security after concerns for the star.

Variety reported: ‘ Disney had to pay for additional security for the mother of four.’
An insider also told the outlet that Zegler hadn’t realised the ramifications of her tweet: ‘She didn’t understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the film, for Gal, for anyone.’
In October 2023, the Israeli actress voiced her support for her country after Hamas launched an attack at the Nova Music Festival, which killed 364 people.
Gadot shared on Instagram: ‘I stand with Israel you should too.
‘The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!’
In 2021, she also called for an end of conflict: ‘My Heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people.
‘This is a viscous cycle that has been going on far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation, our neighbours deserve the same.’
‘I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace.
‘I pray for better days.’
This is just one of the Snow White controversies, as the film has been plagued by several issues.

Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage branded the studio ‘backwards’ for their decision to remake Snow White.
‘Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me,’ the actor, who has a common form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia, said on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast in January 2022.
The actor argued that Disney was ‘progressive in one way’ and yet still making a ‘backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together’.
Disney clarified the film was ‘taking a different approach with these seven characters’ and had been ‘consulting with members of the dwarfism community’ in order to ‘avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film’.
Director Marc Webb opted to portray the dwarf characters using CGI, which was met with controversy from actors with dwarfism who claimed the decision was detrimental to their careers.
Snow White has also had a brutal box office opening, raking in just $43 million (£33.3 million) in its opening weekend.
To put into perspective, the budget for the film was $209 million (£162 million) and the big live-action remakes have typically raked in well above $ 50 million.
Live Action films raking in the big bucks included The Jungle Book ($103.2 million), Beauty and the Beast ($174.7 million), Aladdin ($91.5 million), and The Little Mermaid ($95.5 million).
Snow White has even made less than Dumbo which earned just $45.9 million (£35.6 million).
Snow White is in cinemas now.
Metro has reached out to Disney for comment.

TVHarry Potter fans have revealed an audacious theory that an iconic comedy duo could potentially be reunited in the new TV series.
In April 2023 it was announced that a reboot of the fantasy book series about the world-famous boy wizard was in the works at HBO.
Since then, speculation has grown over which acting legends will be cast in the beloved roles, as well as the new young actors who will play Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Now, it has been rumoured that British actor-comedian Nick Frost is nearing a deal to play the iconic role of half-giant Rubeus Hagrid originally portrayed by Robbie Coltrane, with the casting claim prompting fans to suggest a major theory for the upcoming adaptation.
As HBO continues to put together a cast for the series, it’s been claimed by Deadline that Frost is close to joining the likes of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer and Paapa Essiedu, who are in negotiations to play Professor Albus Dumbledore, Professor Minerva McGonagall and Professor Severus Snape respectively.
However, fans of the book series believe Frost’s comedy sidekick Simon Pegg could also potentially be cast alongside him, considering their many collaborations in the past.
While HBO continues to keep a tight lip over castings, comments about Frost joining the show started to circulate online last week.
Reddit fans highlighted a cryptic post by Frost on March 20, which said: ‘It’s happening, it’s actually happening’, and also noticed that he had followed rumoured cast members Lithgow and Essiedu.
But fans were also quick to suggest that Pegg – who has starred alongside Frost in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul and The World’s End – should be cast alongside him.
Commenting on Reddit, L0ch_ness_monster said: ‘If Nick Frost is in this, then they need to find a role for his BFF Simon Pegg. He could be Filch.’
Desperate_Ad_9219 added: ‘He could be Arthur Weasley. He’s a goofy actor, but I have seen him play serious as well. So he can do both.’
Proof_Surround3856 echoed this, saying: ‘Exactly! He’d be perfect and actually portray him as the sweet yet protective patriarch of the Weasleys.’
A_man_potato also wrote: ‘Simon Pegg played Phineas Black in Hogwarts Legacy. Not a big role, but I’d be happy to see him return to play his portrait.
‘And given that I believe WB is on record saying they want HL to tie into the show, I’d hazard a guess they’re thinking the same.’
HBO declined to comment on the casting speculation, but said in a statement reported by Deadline: ‘We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.’
Hagrid is Hogwarts’ friendly groundskeeper who eventually becomes the Care of Magical Creatures professor.
In all eight Harry Potter films, Coltrane – who passed away in 2022 – played the beloved figure.
Rumours have also so far swirled that Brett Goldstein could star as Rubeus Hagrid.
Others have thought Cillian Murphy would make a convincing Voldemort, including Ralph Fiennes, who famously portrayed the evil wizard in all eight films.

After starring in the AMC action drama series Badlands, Frost will next be seen in the live-action remake How to Train Your Dragon in June.
Last month, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav addressed the future of the Harry Potter TV show, revealing the intention for it to air for a whole decade.
‘When we launch Harry Potter in a year, a little over a year, we’ll have 10 consecutive years of Harry Potter, and be able to amortize that globally, around the world,’ he said, according to sports media outlet Awful Announcing. The drama is expected to launch in 2026 or 2027.
Given that Lithgow is currently 79, it means that by the time the Harry Potter TV series ends he could be in his early nineties.
Speaking about playing Dumbledore, Lithgow told Screen Rant: ‘Well, it came as a total surprise to me. I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid.
‘But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.’
The HBO production will be filmed in the same Warner Bros Studios in the UK where the films were also shot.
The Harry Potter TV series will air on HBO Max.

TVWWE legend Mick Foley suffered with memory loss after repeated concussions from wrestling.
The 59-year-old Hall of Famer, who also wrestled as Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love throughout his memorable career, is known for putting his health on the line countless times in the name of entertaining the fans.
As well as the infamous Hell In A Cell match against The Undertaker still having lingering effects, his brutal I Quit Match at the 1999 Royal Rumble against Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in also had a terrifying impact.
‘There were times when he should not have been wrestling, he should not have been cleared,’ his wife Colette recalled in the latest episode of Vice TV’s Dark Side of the Ring.
‘He’d drive around and not remember where he lived. It’s concussion on top of concussion on top of concussion.’
Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette argued: ‘He got brain damage for a f**king wresting angle on television.’
Mick’s daughter Noelle admitted she always hated the I Quit Match, and she feels like watching it was so traumatising that her brain has blocked out any memories of seeing her dad in the ring.
‘I don’t have one singular memory of my dad ever wrestling. Part of me thinks because it was traumatic to me,’ she said, clearly overwhelmed with emotion.
‘How could these 11 shots change my dad’s health? If you were to get 11 head shots, a normal person probably could have died. it’s sickening, honestly.’
She noted how CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) – which is believed to be linked to repeated head injuries and can lead to dementia – is a ‘scary’ prospect for the former world champion’s future.
‘CTE is a very scary disease. That is a long term effect of repetitive concussions and brain trauma. We don’t really know how my dad will be doing in 10, 20 years or so,’ she admitted.

Mick himself confessed he’s ‘really worried’ about how much his health could deteriorate as a result of the punishment he put himself through wrestling all over the world for WWE, ECW, All Japan Pro Wrestling and beyond.
‘If you’re wondering if I’m worried about that – yeah, yeah, yeah, really worried. Every day I worry about that,’ he said. ‘The fallout from what I’ve done – honestly, I don’t see a way out of it.’
However, he is staying bullish about his chances at trying to improve his mental capacity and maintain his health.
‘I’m gonna fight it. I’m gonna try to be someone who continues to get sharper as they get older,’ he added.
He also pointed to how his live spoken word and Q&A tours are ‘like mental gymnastics’ for his mind.
However, long time friend and fellow wrestler Al Snow pointed out that his pal is still ‘paying that price’ for everything he put his body through in the 1990s and early 2000s.
He said: ‘If you’ve pushed those physical limits like Mick has, yeah, you’re definitely going to pay the price. Sadly, Mick is paying that price right now.’
Back in 2020, Mick insisted despite not having about the Hell In A Cell match, it ‘shortened’ his career and made him ‘believe in his own mortality’.
Speaking to Metro at the time he said: ‘The cell collapsing when I was chokeslammed still has fallout for me!
‘I just paid $425 to remove my bottom flipper – which are false teeth which were knocked out in that cell – and I’ll have to pay $15,000 or so to get those teeth fixed.’

TVMalcolm in the Middle fans have been treated to some major news about the upcoming TV reboot, including one beloved character who’s been recast.
It’s been 19 years since the final episode of the TV sitcom aired, starring Frankie Muniz as the titular character – a highly intelligent kid who has to deal with the daily chaos of his family.
Considering the legacy it’s left over the past two decades, it’s astonishing to think that it only aired for six years and seven seasons from 2000 until 2006.
Now, it’s set to make a highly-anticipated return after years of rumours, with iconic cast members including Bryan Cranston as Malcolm’s dad Hal making a return.
While there’ll be several familiar faces alongside Frankie, 39, and Bryan, 69, one actor from the original cast won’t be joining them.
It’s been reported by Variety that Erik Per Sullivan, 33, who originally played Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle, has been replaced for the revival.
Caleb Ellsworth-Clark – who’s previously starred in TV shows including Fargo and The Expanse and bears a striking resemblance to the former Dewey star – will instead take his place.
While some fans might have initially been disappointed that Erik won’t be returning, several pointed out that his absence isn’t too surprising considering his final professional acting role was in 2010.
Jane Kaczmarek, who plays the matriarch Lois in Malcolm in the Middle, previously spoke about her co-star’s decision to step away from the limelight.
‘He’s well, he’s very, very well…He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all,’ she said in a 2024 interview with the YouTube channel Malcolm France.
‘He goes to school at a very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about and he loves Charles Dickens. He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature. I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world, it’s not for everyone.’
Given Erik decided to move away from acting 15 years ago, several Malcolm in the Middle fans have praised the decision to have a new actor play Dewey in the reboot, rather than removing the character completely.
‘That’s pretty cool actually.he wanted out of that crazy life and it sounds like people respected it,’ a Reddit user called Oreo_ wrote in response to the news.
‘It’s a surprisingly well-cast recast,’ CollinsCouldveDucked said, while thizface,’ remarked: ‘The new dude looks just like him.’
Bobthetomatovibes said that while it’s ‘sad’ that Erik isn’t returning, ‘it makes sense if he really wants nothing to do with acting anymore’.
‘I’m glad they’re not just pretending the character doesn’t exist!’ they stated.
One Reddit user called ElGranQuesoRojo suggested that as a running gag in the revival, Malcolm’s older brother Reese – who is being reprised by Justin Berfield from the original series – should be the only one to notice that Dewey has changed, ‘and no matter how much he tries to prove it nobody will believe him’.
Christopher Masterson will also be coming back as Francis, while further cast members including Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murae and Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah.
Malcolm in the Middle is available to stream on Disney Plus.

GamingAn unexpected spat between Elon Musk and Ubisoft has erupted on social media, as the Assassin’s Creed X account goes rogue.
While the reaction to Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been mostly positive following its launch last week, it clearly hasn’t pleased everyone.
The game has been a culture war target over its dual protagonists, black samurai Yasuke and female shinobi Naoe, ever since it was first revealed – sparking online petitions and weird apologies from developer Ubisoft.
These tensions have led to a bizarre exchange on X, involving none other than Elon Musk and a world class diss from Ubisoft’s social media team.
This exchange was sparked by former Blizzard developer and Gamergate supporter Mark Kern, aka Grummz, who criticised Ubisoft for collaborating with Twitch streamer and left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker, to promote Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Kern’s post on X prompted a response from Musk, who called Piker a ‘fraud’ and a ‘sell out’. ‘Objectively, he is promoting a terrible game just for the money,’ he added.
While Piker didn’t respond to the claims, the official X account for Assassin’s Creed waded in with some unexpected jabs.
‘Is that what the guy playing your Path Of Exile 2 account told you?’ the Twitter account said to Musk.
This is in reference to the SpaceX CEO and senior adviser to Donald Trump misleading people about his gaming skills in Path Of Exile 2, after he admitted he had someone else level boost his account and that he wasn’t, in fact, one of the best players in the world.
The jabs didn’t stop there. When Kern replied with a screenshot with the headline ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t the hit Ubisoft desperately needs’, the game’s official account account replied: ‘Our game is out.’
This appears to be a dig at Kern’s spiritual successor to online shooter Firefall, called Em-8er, which still hasn’t been released nine years after its initial crowdfunding campaign was announced.
While it remains to be seen if Assassin’s Creed Shadows will help Ubisoft out of its financial rut, the game has seemingly sold very well. According to Ubisoft, the Japanese-themed entry hit two million players after two days, surpassing the launch of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey.
According to Gfk/Nielsen data (via The Game Business), Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the biggest physical launch of the year so far, although its physical sales in the UK are 63% of what Assassin’s Creed Valhalla managed in November 2020.
Valhalla, however, was available on more platforms and came out during the pandemic.

TVA year after it first aired, the longest-ever Bluey episode will be available to watch for free in the UK.
In April last year the beloved animated childrens show released a 28-minute episode titled The Sign.
It followed Australian blue heeler puppy Bluey and her family – dad Bandit, mum Chilli and sister Bingo – as they got ready to sell their Brisbane home and prepare to move away.
Another storyline featured the upcoming marriage between Bandit’s brother Radley and Bluey’s godmother Frisky.
Some of the stars who voiced characters in the episode included Patrick Brammall, Megan Washington, Rose Byrne, Rove McManus, Deborah Mailman, and Joel Edgerton.
At the time the episode left many viewers in tears as they tuned in to the ‘emotional rollercoaster’.
‘I wasn’t expecting to cry when I got up this morning, but here we are. Have a box of tissues nearby before you start,’ user isaacjamesellison posted on IMDB.
‘Sitting here balling my eyes out. Never did I think I’d be sitting here writing a review about a kids show, but here I am. Outstanding,’ arsenalarerockers shared.
‘Bluey is not just a kids show. It’s for everyone – kids and adults alike. The Sign is an amazing episode in an already outstanding show. TV doesn’t get much better than this. I love this show,’ traviswhoughton added.
This episode – the season 3 finale – drew in an audience of nearly 2.3 million when it aired on ABC in Australia, while it was then released on Disney Plus internationally.
7 April, 7.20am: Cubby – Bluey and Bingo build a very special cubby for their stuffed toy, Kimjim.
7 April, 7.30am: Exercise – Bingo pretends to be Boss Bluey’s new employee in the middle of Dad’s backyard workout.
8 April, 7.20am: Relax – Bluey and Bingo would rather explore their holiday hotel room than relax on the beach.
9 April, 7.20am: Stickbird – On a trip to the beach, Mum teaches Bluey how to throw, while Bingo and Dad get creative with a funny shaped stick.
10 April, 7.20am: Show and Tell – Bluey wants to know why Dad’s always bossing her around!
11 April, 7.20am: Dragon – Bluey asks Dad to help her draw a dragon for her story.
14 April, 7.20am: Wild Girls – Coco wants to play Wild Girls with Indy, but Chloe wants her to play another game.
15 April, 7.20am: TV Shop – At the pharmacy, Bluey and Bingo have fun playing with the CCTV screens.
16 April, 7.20am Slide – Bingo and Lila are excited to play on their new waterslide.
17 April, 7.20am Cricket – During a friendly game of neighborhood cricket, the dads struggle to bowl Rusty out.
18 April, 7.20am: Ghostbasket – Dad is pretending to be an estate agent selling the Grannies’ house to Mum. But Janet and Rita don’t want to move out!
18 April, 9am: The Sign – The Heeler home is up for sale and Bluey’s not happy about it.
21 April, 7.20am: Surprise – Bluey and Bingo want Dad to play two different games, so Dad plays both at the same time.
Now, it’s going to be available to watch for free on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in just a few weeks.
The Sign will air on April 18, with BBC’s senior head of commissioning for CBeebies Kate Morton sharing: ‘The extended episode has already garnered so much positive acclaim and it’s the perfect Easter treat for families to watch together over Easter weekend maybe even with a chocolate egg or two.’
There will also be 13 new episodes of the series released throughout the month.
These include Ghostbasket and Surprise, which can be enjoyed alongside The Sign as part of a trilogy of Bluey episodes, with Ghostbasket going before it and Surprise after.
‘We know how much little ones and their families all over the world love Bluey, and it’s important to us that everyone across the UK has the chance to watch this global sensation,’ Kate continued.
‘That’s why we’re so proud that CBeebies is the UK home for Bluey.’
In December Bluey creator Joe Brumm announced The Sign would be his final writing credit for the show as he switched focus to working on an upcoming feature film adaptation.
It is due to be released in 2027.
The Sign will air on CBeebies on April 18, with other episodes to air and be made available on BBC iPlayer throughout the month.

TV star Anna Maxwell-Martin shared a very cryptic answer when asked about the heavily rumoured return of Line of Duty.
The hit BBC police drama came to an end with season six in 2021, but since last year there has been consistent chatter that the show will be returning for a seventh installment.
Stars such as Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Nicola Rogerson have all addressed the potential reboot, which seems likely to be going ahead although the BBC is yet to confirm.
And now the 47-year-old star – who played DCS Patricia Carmichael – has offered her two pence about whether fans can expect a season seven – and it is the most ominous yet.
The star attended the Royal Television Society Awards on Tuesday night where she won for best leading female actor for her role in ITV drama Until I Kill You.
When asked by Metro ahead of the awards ceremony if she could offer fans any update on a potential season seven, she replied: ‘I would be killed by a sniper over there so…’
In November last year, Vicky appeared to shut down rumours of a season seven happening anytime soon in a chat with Metro, saying: ‘It’s (the rumours) hard to ignore. We all read social media and all that kind of stuff.
‘But the great thing is that people love the show and we’re truly grateful that people love it.’
And on a season seven update, added: ‘But there is no news. That is the news, no news!’
Then, like piecing together a puzzle, co-star Christina Chong revealed that she had been ‘asked about a seventh season’ and that her character, Nicola Rogers, will ‘potentially be back’, per the Mail.
Then in March, Steve Arnott actor Martin, put cold water over hopes after saying there was ‘nothing coming soon’.
He told The Sun: ‘So we’re all working and there’s nothing coming soon. It will be a sad day when people stop asking about Line Of Duty. I appreciate that people want it back.’
And added that any return would be entirely in the hands of creator Jed Mercurio.
As for Anna, the jury may still be out on Line of Duty, but things seemed more hopeful when it comes to an Amandaland cameo.

The actor didn’t appear in the hugely popular first season of the BBC spin-off drama – but that could change in season two.
‘Oh my god I’m a massive cheerleader. I love the girls. I love Lucy and Phil so much. I feel like the spin-off was so right. It sits so neatly in what we created with Motherland and that character really earning that splinter off.
‘I’m so proud of the girls, I’m so proud it’s done so well. And we were all a really close group so just really chuffed for them.’
And would she return?
‘Yeah I’ll go back and do a Tupperware party. No probs.’
The actor had a successful evening, scooping up one of the top of the awards from the night. And offered a chaotic acceptance speech along with it, as captured by the Mail.
”I’m p****d, I’ve had so many drinks, so this is going to be hard!’ later joking: ‘I’m hammered, these things go on for a long time!’.
Elsewhere on the night Rivals, Gavin and Stacey and Alma’s Not Normal all secured top accolades.

GamingCD Projekt has narrowed down the release date of The Witcher 4 and offered updates for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and The Witcher 1 remake.
Cyberpunk 2077 might have had the bumpiest launch of any modern video game but it all turned out okay in the end and publisher CD Projekt’s sci-fi dystopia has now sold over 30 million copies. That’s nothing compared to 2015’s The Witcher 3 though, which has racked up over 50 million sales – making it one of the best-selling single-player games of all time.
At one point, publisher CD Projekt implied there wouldn’t be any direct sequel, but after the rocky road travelled by Cyberpunk 2077 they changed their mind and announced a host of new titles, including a remake of the first game and a new trilogy of original titles.
The Witcher 4 is the first of these but the only thing we’ve seen so far is a pre-rendered trailer, which implies that Ciri, not Geralt, is the lead protagonist. It’s not clear when CD Projekt are going to reveal any more information, but they have narrowed down the release date… a bit.
In the company’s latest financial report, it completely ruled out the chance of The Witcher 4 in 2026. However, 2027 was described as a possibility, but with no promises that it wouldn’t be pushed back beyond that.
‘We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet,’ said chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz. ‘All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026.’
As you can tell by the way he phrased it, the information was aimed at investors, not fans, but it’s pretty unambiguous in terms of when you should start hoping for the game to be released.
That wasn’t the only revelation though, with CD Projekt announcing that it has also partnered with new Pokémon Go owner Scopely, for an unnamed title ‘set within one of CD Projekt’s IPs.’ That probably means The Witcher or Cyberpunk, but CD Projekt does have at least one other new IP underway.
There were also minor updates on some of CD Projekt’s other internal projects, with The Witcher multiplayer spin-off Project Sirius described as still being in pre-production. Nevertheless, developer The Molasses Flood has already been merged with the CD Projekt Red team, which suggests Sirus will share some of The Witcher 4’s DNA (and assets).
Strangely, The Witcher 1 remake, which was implied to be the next game to be released, still isn’t in full production, with some of the development team now helping out with The Witcher 4 instead.
A remake shouldn’t take as long as a brand new game but there’s now a question mark over whether the game will in fact be the next title from CD Projekt, or if The Witcher 4 will leapfrog in front of it.
CD Projekt has also hinted that it has a number of other unannounced projects in development, as well as brand new IP codenamed Project Hadar. What that is though, is a completely mystery.
The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is currently codenamed Project Orion and will apparently be entering pre-production ‘in the coming weeks.’ There’s no clue as to when it will be released but it will definitely be after The Witcher 4, so 2028 at the very earliest.

Stealth assassins
I’ve been playing a lot of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and I have to say I’m really enjoying it. It’s not really doing anything new for the series, but the graphics are very good and there’s not many bogs, which is a nice change. But the thing I like best? It’s the closest thing to a next gen Tenchu I’ve ever played. Which by default makes it the best ninja game of the modern era.
The problem is that there aren’t many other contenders. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is definitely a better game but it’s not that similar to Tenchu, which is fine because that’s not what it was trying to do and I’d much rather FromSoftware make something original. (The irony is From did actually make a Tenchu game, back in their pre-Dark Souls days, but it was just an Xbox Live Arcade spin-off.)
Ubisoft isn’t exactly on their artistic level though, so they’re the perfect ones to make a new game that is Tenchu in all but name and I kind of love them for it. I’ve honestly had a lot more fun with it than Ghost Of Tsushima, which wasn’t trying to be that stealthy but I found became repetitive much too quickly. Maybe Shadows will in the end but so far I’m enjoying sneaking over rooftops and peering round corners, just like Tenchu on the PS1.

Crazy Direct
The idea of another Nintendo Direct this week seems crazy at first, given everyone’s waiting for the one next week, but I think we’re forgetting just how weird and unpredictable Nintendo can be. Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Kart 9 makes sense to us as a launch line-up, but we don’t know how far along those games are or what they’re like.
It seemed madness to me that there wouldn’t be a Switch 2 specific version of Metroid Prime 4 but what if, instead, Nintendo uses it to show how much Switch 2 improves the quality of Switch 1 games? That actually makes more business sense, because then you’re telling everyone that even though the Switch 2 looks the same it actually makes the games you’ve got even better.
It’s the PS5 Pro pitch, except I imagine the differences will be more obvious and the console will be more affordable – and do other things the original can’t. So, if there’s a Switch 1-only Direct this week and Metroid Prime 4 is the focus, I actually wouldn’t be surprised.

Winners and losers
It will be kind of hilarious if this autumn there’s nothing out except GTA 6 and Switch 2 exclusives. I can easily imagine it too, because we know that’s what’s people are interested and as publishers now seem to be accepting, people haven’t got time to play a dozen games a year.
It’s an extreme example, that probably won’t be repeated again, but it does highlight the vast gap between the winners and losers in this business. Gamers aren’t willing to take a risk on anything that isn’t either a big name or dirt cheap, preferably free.
That’s always been true but never to this degree. Seems to me the answer is to make smaller and cheaper games but I don’t see any sign that anyone’s trying to do that. It’s the same old problem of everyone trying to be number one and nobody being willing to admit they won’t be.

Vapour, where?
So is there any theory for why Rockstar hasn’t shown Trailer 2 of GTA 6 yet? I hate to ask a stupid question, but it seems really strange to have your first one in 2023 and then nothing, and we’re now a quarter of the way into 2025.
A delay seems the only explanation, but Take-Two says it’s not that, so what is it? Are we only ever going to get two trailers? Are we going to get a bunch of them all in a row, just before release? Won’t that seem a bit overkill?
I just don’t get it and if this was any other game we’d be accusing it of being vapourware at this point. It’s not like there’s an obvious date they’re waiting for, so you can’t assume it’ll be in June, or whenever. There’s just no clue at all and that’s beginning to seem weird.

Never bettered
I didn’t think there could be anything more crazy than the way that Sony has handled Bloodborne, but finding out it’s 10 years old manages to beat it. I guess time flies when you’re having fun, but I would’ve never have put that down as a decade old. It’s not even like it was a launch PlayStation 4 game or anything.
I think that’s because the boundaries between this gen and the last seem so vague. It still feels like this gen hasn’t really started and yet we’re already talking about the next one. It’s all so stressful because for me the PlayStation 4 was pretty much the prefect model console and yet the follow-up has been such a wet fart.
I knew Bloodborne seemed like a high watermark at the time, I didn’t realise that was going to be literally as good as it gets.

Travel plans
I’ve been wondering where Assassin’s Creed can go next too, and I agree there’s nothing very obvious. The only one I’ve seen a lot from fans is WW1 or 2, which could be interesting, but it depends where they set it.
Something showing why they’re called world wars would be interesting, so a theatre we don’t usually see maybe, like Africa or China. China is one of the obvious settings left but that’s probably going to seem too similar to Shadows to do straight away, so the country in one of the world wars would be interesting.
India would be another good one, but would Ubisoft really get into the politics of the Raj? And if they did, would they actually manage to be sensitive and accurate enough about it? I have my doubts. They could do it pre-colonialism though, that would be interesting.
I know very little about that, but I’d say one of the flaws of Assassin’s Creed is that it doesn’t really teach you a lot about history that you didn’t already know. They go for obvious settings but they’re obvious because people know them. I’d like to learn about a new place and culture for once, that I didn’t know about before.
Given historical accuracy wasn’t exactly Shadows strong point maybe that’s a bad idea, but then again it could be a chance for them to prove they’re doing things right now.
Station
Nothing inside
So Xbox have decided that you can go to the shop and buy Indiana Jones And The Great Circle but it’s a code that you download. What is the point of that? I was going to buy it but I don’t think I’ll bother now.
Why don’t they just do one or the other? You can either buy it on disc or you can download it, why do it where you can buy it in shops but you have to download it?
David
GC: Codes in a box have been a thing for years now, sadly. If that’s even what this is – it sounds more like there is a disc but it needs additional downloads to work.
Direct Effect
I wonder if we’ll see anything about the new Mass Effect this year? That’s one thing I don’t expect to see at the Nintendo Direct, but I would like it if it turned up at one of the not-E3 events. We really need to know that EA hasn’t canned it, after the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but maybe that’s me being paranoid.
It makes me wonder in general what kind of games will be in the Direct and what won’t. I’m pretty sure there’ll be nothing from Rockstar, for example, but I wouldn’t be surprised at Capcom stuff, up to and including Resident Evil.
Ubisoft is a given, since they’ve always been close with Nintendo, and I think bringing back those MySims games shows that EA are wanting in too. Although EA are getting like Activision nowadays, where they publish fewer and fewer games every year, to the point where I’m not even sure what else they’d put on Switch 2. The current one already has EA Sports FC, so what else is there? A port of Dragon Age?
Literally anything could happen next Wednesday and that’s definitely exciting. I just hope Nintendo make the most of the opportunity and don’t leave us with more questions than answers. People assume they’ll talk about the release date and price but that’s not guaranteed.
We don’t even know if there’ll be any third party games there, but I think there will be. They’ll want to show off that everyone wants to be on Switch 2 and hopefully that’ll involve a lot of surprises… just probably not Mass Effect.

I’m always shocked that Australia is the most strict country in the West when it comes to ratings and video game content. How can they be so chill about everything else but get worked up over video games?
Algie
A lot of talk about Capcom bringing back old franchises but I’m surprised they’ve never tried to do a new Breath Of Fire. I know role-players aren’t generally their thing, but they made a lot of them back in the day, so they must’ve have been popular at the time.

Harry Potter producer David Heyman will be producing the new James Bond film (Picture Jeff Spicer/Getty Images for Warner Bros. Pictures) Spider-Man and Harry Potter producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are to produce the next film in the James Bond series for Amazon MGM […]
FilmSpider-Man and Harry Potter producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are to produce the next film in the James Bond series for Amazon MGM Studios.
It comes after Amazon gained creative control of the British spy franchise in February, following an earlier deal which saw them acquire the rights to the 007 franchise through its parent studio Eon Productions, founded in 1961, when it bought MGM in 2022 for $8.45billion (£6.69bn), duly forming its own studio.
Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson – who have produced the franchise since the death of Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli – previously agreed to step back and retire, respectively, allowing Amazon to fully take the reins.
The new agreement over creative control means Bond – and whoever is next to play the spy – will be stepping with his licence to kill into a brand-new era.
What that will look like remains unclear, but this new team, comprise of two of the most successful and sought-after producers in the industry, said they will ‘keep the spirit of Bond very much alive’ and are ‘humbled’ by the opportunity to continue the franchise.
Speaking about taking on the next film, Pascal and Heyman said in a joint statement: ‘James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema.
‘We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who made so many extraordinary films and honoured and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.’
It’s not clear yet if Heyman and Pascal might be undertaking more than one mission/movie with 007.
Pascal, who is best-known for her work on the last three Spider-Man films, is currently working on the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, for Amazon MGM Studios.
She has also produced the Luca Guadagnino-directed Challengers, and is working on Narnia alongside Mark Gordon, which Greta Gerwig is directing for Netflix.
Meanwhile Heyman produced all eight film adaptations of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books, as well as the three Fantastic Beasts films, and has also worked on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Gravity and Wonka, as well as the Paddington franchise.
He is currently in pre-production on the rebooted Harry Potter television series and in post-production on Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguru’s Klara And The Sun, starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams.
Amazon MGM Studios head of film, Courtenay Valenti, said of the announcement: ‘We are approaching every creative decision with James Bond, which Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have so masterfully steered, with the greatest sense of responsibility.
‘Part of an elite group of producers who have developed and managed massive film franchises to box office success and critical acclaim, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are two of the most accomplished, experienced, and respected film producers in our industry.
‘We are honoured to be working with them on James Bond’s next chapter and are excited to deliver to global audiences storytelling that upholds the impeccable legacy of this beloved character.’
Bet 365 has Henry Cavill as favourite to play the next James Bond after Daniel Craig announced his departure after No Time To Die.
Here are the odds at the time of writing:
Henry Cavill 6/4
Aaron Taylor-Johnson 5/1
James Norton 8/1
Harris Dickinson 9/1
Rene-Jean Page 12/1
Josh O’Connor 12/1
Richard Madden: 14/1
Jack Lowden: 14/1
Paul Mescal: 18/1
Callum Turner: 18/1
Pascal will produce the film via Pascal Pictures, and Heyman will produce via Heyday Films.
This development comes after it was reported the next Bond installment is going to be fast-tracked, with Amazon aiming for it to hit cinemas by the end of 2027.
A source told The Sun: ‘The Bond bosses had already proposed broad plots and reboot ideas.
‘The writers’ rooms are being assembled in the hope of recouping their investment ASAP.’
The new Bond movie also ha s a reported budget of £250million.
