TVCraig Revel Horwood has taken aim at his fellow judges as he claims he is the only judge that matters.
The author and dancer, 60, is beloved by fans for his role as the harshest judge and the one to impress on Strictly Come Dancing.
Since the inception of the show, Craig has appeared in all 22 seasons, and was one of the initial four judges alongside Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, and Bruno Tonioli.
After Bruno left the show in 2019, Craig is the last remaining original judge, and is joined by blasted Shirley Ballas, 64, Anton Du Beke, 58, and Motsi Mabuse, 43, on the panel of the show.
Craig has now claimed that in fact he is the only judge remaining on the panel who matters.

‘There is no other judge. I created it. They are either dead or have been sacked,’ he said in an interview with The Sun.
‘I get booed heavily, but I enjoy playing the villain,’ he added.
Craig was seemingly referencing Goodman, who died aged 78 from bone cancer in 2023, just six months into his retirement.
He also appeared to make reference to Dame Arlene, 81, who famously didn’t have her contract renewed in 2009 and was replaced by Alesha Dixon, 46, after five years on the show.
Craig then joked that his comments about his fellow judges would help to sell tickets for the tour of his album Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing
‘We are going to be in the news. We need it as this is the beginning of the tour, and we need to sell the tour.’
Craig was once known for being brutal with the contestants and has spoken about being kinder in recent series, but retaining honesty.
‘I have changed my style of judging,’ he told the Radio Times magazine in 2024.
‘I was really harsh 20 years ago. When I look back, I think, “Ooh, that’s cutting.” It would now be classed as bullying, and then I’d be cancelled.’
He added: ‘It’s not fear of being cancelled. It’s just, how can I reach out to them and help them to improve, rather than just saying, “This is wrong, that’s wrong.” I’m thinking more like a teacher than a judge.
Craig also explained that he thinks the standard has vastly improved over the years.
‘They’re much more talented now than they used to be. Back then, we had snooker players and politicians, and it was pretty tough on people who couldn’t dance. I was very direct. I do still say what’s wrong, but you can wrap the truth in a nice way.’

TVJedward were unforgettable on Celebrity Big Brother, but the duo have now revealed that John was plagued by a ‘scary health diagnosis’ the whole time.
The brothers — John and Edward Grimes — have actually appeared on CBB twice, first in 2011 then again in 2017, when they finished as runners-up.
As the latest series kicks off, Jedward, 33, spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets and advice from their two stints in the house.
While most were light-hearted recollections, John discussed the dramatic moment he fell when entering in 2017 and had to get medical attention.
‘Another thing that didn’t air is that when we were entering the house, I fell off the stage,’ he shared. ‘I hit my back and had to go to hospital for tests.
‘At the time, they gave me a scary diagnosis that I could have cancer.’
Thankfully, John was given the all-clear after the series ended, having spent their entire 28-day run plagued by the health crisis.
‘I went through the experience thinking I was going to die,’ he added to OK! Magazine.
In a devastating development, the Eurovision icons would go on to lose their mum, Susanna, to cancer just two years later.
At the time, John downplayed the fall to Big Brother in the Diary Room: ‘Five seconds on the show and I’ve hurt myself!’
Pointing out his deflated signature hairstyle, he continued: ‘You know it’s a bad day when my hair looks like this! Now I have to go to hospital looking like this.’
He returned to the house that evening, with CBB not airing any conversations about a diagnosis and Jedward carrying on as normal.
The pair still managed to have fun while in the house, with Edward saying there is plenty of chance for romance on the show.
‘We could have had loads of showmances but we didn’t entertain them,’ he explained. ‘There are lots of condoms in there – they have a stash in the bathroom!
‘The producers have high hopes they’ll get used. There were hilarious moments.
‘Once, John ran out of underpants, so Bianca Gascoigne gave him her thong.’
On Monday, April 7, hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best return to front the showbiz edition of ITV’s beloved social experiment.
This year’s cast reportedly includes talk show hosting legend Trisha Goddard, American actor Mickey Rourke and internet sensation JoJo Siwa.
Only time will tell who will follow in David Potts’ footsteps and emerge victorious as the 2025 winner.
Celebrity Big Brother returns to ITV and ITVX on Monday, April 7.

TVA leg injury has forced a Gladiators contestant out of the competition after they made it all the way to the final.
Zavia Hill, a personal trainer from Manchester, was hit during one of the games on the BBC One show’s semi-final, and at first it seemed like she would continue.
She was treated by a physiotherapist backstage and made it to the final leg, an assault course called The Eliminator, taking home the win, but later had to withdraw.
Her place will be taken by the fastest female runner-up from the semi-finals, Aneila Afsar, a supply teacher also from Manchester, who has broken barriers as the ‘first Muslim woman on the show’.
Zavia said: ‘Reaching the final felt special, I usually give up when I feel like I’ve failed.
‘After injuring my leg in the Gauntlet, I convinced myself I was out. But at the start of the Eliminator, I thought, not this time. Give it your all, girl.’
She also said that during the Gauntlet game, where Gladiators try to prevent contenders passing with the aide of power-pads, she ‘knew my time on the show was probably over, I was devastated’.
‘I got very emotional after I realised I’d hurt my leg as bad as I did,’ Zavia added.
‘When I got home and the adrenaline had worn off, I realised I could hardly move my leg but on the plus side, I got to watch the final from the front row and cheer both of my friends on.’
She also said that she felt ‘like a butterfly with newfound confidence’ after being in the arena, and urged Aneila to do ‘Manchester proud’.
Aneila said reaching the final was ‘bittersweet’, and added: ‘Anyone who’s been following the show knows how badly I wanted to make it to the final, but this isn’t the way I wanted to get there. At the same time, I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity and so excited for what’s ahead.’
She also called Zavia ‘an incredible contender and an even better person’, adding: ‘It’s an honour to represent her and I’ll actually be wearing some of her gems in the final.’
Aneila said: ‘Winning Gladiators would be amazing. I’m a competitive person and a former pro-athlete so I’m always in it to win it.
‘But honestly, just getting here is huge. I’ve already broken so many barriers as the first Muslim woman on the show, and now being in the final is incredible.
‘I know that my presence alone will have a positive impact on Muslim women, and that means everything to me.’
She will face Warrington gym owner Amanda Wah, as Scarborough-born gymnastics coach Joe Fishburn and east London youth worker Mus Dumbuya also go head-to-head in the men’s final.
Finlay Anderson and Marie-Louise Nicholson were crowned Gladiators champions after a tense final showdown in March last year.
The duo went up against finalists Wesley Male and Bronte Jones for one last time – but after 11 weeks of gruelling challenges, they were the ones who emerged victorious.
To reach the final, the contenders had to battle against the show’s 16 Gladiators in games testing strength, speed and dexterity that continue to be family favourites from previous versions of the programme.
The BBC revived Gladiators last year, with a new batch of athletes following in the footsteps of icons Wolf, Jet, Hunter and Lightening.
Originally running from 1992 to 2000, Gladiators was hosted by Ulrika Jonsson on ITV, and now sees father-son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh at the helm.
Gladiators: Grand Final is on April 12 at 5.50pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

GamingAs we get closer to Easter, Google has decided to introduce a new secret Pokémon game.
To the surprise of its fans, the franchise has created a hidden browser game where you can search all 151 Pokémon from the Kanton region in the search engine.
Google revealed that searches for ‘Pokémon card’ reached an all-time high in February.
Accordingly, you can now try to capture them simply by searching names into Google’s search bar.
If you have successfully searched for one, you can then catch it by tapping the Poké Ball icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Once the creature becomes locked in the ball, it becomes part of your virtual Pokédex, which you can save your progress in your account.
For now, the Easter egg is only available on mobile devices, however, this may change in the future.
Once you catch creatures, you then have to play a game of ‘whose that Pokémon?’ to unlock their silhouettes.
In a statement, Michelle Chou, entertainment product manager at Google, said: ‘Keep testing your knowledge, and the superfans will be in for a surprise once they’ve collected all of them.’
Two weeks ago, it was revealed that a new line of Pokémon-themed Lego sets have been announced.
Lego and Nintendo’s first partnership was for the ongoing Super Mario line of Lego sets, which, rather than just being recreations of scenes from specific games, with ordinary brick-built minifigures, involve giant-sized Bluetooth figures and customisable courses.
They’ve also dabbled with sets aimed at adults, such as the upcoming Mario Kart model, as well as a 2-in-1 Legend Of Zelda creation.
Lego said in a statement: ‘This new partnership will bring the world of Pokémon to life in entirely new ways, allowing fans to build beloved Pokémon in Lego brick form.
‘For the first time, the Lego Group will be bringing the most loved Pokémon to life in a brand-new way, with play experiences that will delight new and existing fans alike.’

FilmDon’t Worry Darling, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, is set to come to Netflix after being haunted by reported backstage drama throughout its press run.
The 2022 Olivia Wilde-directed psychological thriller, which follows a 1950s housewife (Pugh) who starts to become unnerved by her picture-perfect husband and closed community, when it seems that not everything is as it seems.
The film launched on Netflix and has hooked viewers, soaring to the top of the streaming charts.
‘Your movie for the weekend if you love thrillers like that of “Get out” or Shutter Island or Fractured watch this on Netflix “ Don’t worry darling” I enjoyed it. #dontworrydarlingnetflix,’ said mynameisAyomi on X.
‘So i just watched don’t worry darling. oh my f*****g god please go watch it on netflix rn,’ said backtocornelia.

‘Just watched ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ on Netflix. It’s like a modern retelling of the Stepford Wives, really enjoyed it 🤩,’ said AbandonedBear.
‘Watched Don’t worry darling for the first time yesterday and what the flip that was actually wild,’ said _holygrailbws.
And while audiences may have enjoyed the final product, it was fraught with backstage drama that caused chaos on set.
The film was met with mixed reviews, when it was released, and much of the attention from the film was caught up in the backstage drama on the set, which was well reported at the time.
Among the various rumours was a feud between the director and the leading character in the film.
It was reported that Wilde would frequently be absent from set, which frustrated Pugh and it was reported that the tensions culminated in a screaming match on set, as reported by Vulture.
Wilde praised Pugh publicly and blamed the tabloids for the reports of a fallout.
Pugh did not address the fallout claims and a report said that she would be ‘limiting press’ – although it was said this was down to the actress’s filming commitments on Dune 2, which she was filming in Budapest at the time of the Venice Film Festival.

Another controversy arose as Shia LaBeouf was replaced by Harry Styles.
Wilde addressed LaBeouf’s departure, saying that he had been let go from the project.
‘His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances. I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job,’ she told Variety.
However, LaBeouf denied the claims, claiming that he was the one to decide to walk away from the project and even was able to show proof of texts as evidence.
Variety reported that the actor reached out in the days after their interview with Wilde was published, and forwarded them an email he had sent to the director where he said he was ‘confused by the narrative that I was fired.’
The next drama took place in April 2022 when Wilde was served divorce papers from her husband Jason Sudekis while on stage.
While at a presentation at CinemaCon, Wilde was handed an envelope, which was reported to contain legal documents from Sudeikis.
Wilde later told Variety: ‘It was my workplace.
‘In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen. There was a huge breach in security, which is really scary.
‘The hurdles that you had to jump through to get into that room with several badges, plus special Covid tests that had to be taken days in advance, which gave you wristbands that were necessary to gain access to the event — this was something that required forethought.’
She went on to say: ‘There’s a reason I left that relationship.’
Another controversy arrived as actress Kiki Layne claims she and co-star Ari’el Stachel were ‘cut from most of the movie’
The actress who played Margaret in the film shared on Instagram: ‘The best thing about #DontWorryDarling is that I was lucky enough to meet @arielstachel. They cut us from most of the movie, but we thriving in real life. 🙂🙂 Love you Ari ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #GotMyCheck #GotMyMan #EverythingHappensforaReason.’
Along with all of this drama, there was also a (false) claim that Chris Pine spat on Styles during a Venice Film Festival panel. This was later proved to be totally false, but it exemplified how high the tensions were around this film that fans believed this story.
Wilde and Styles also began a relationship during this time which was met with a huge amount of media attention, adding only more drama into the mix.
The reviews surrounding the film were mixed, with the film only earning a 38% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.
The critic’s consensus for the movie reads: ‘Despite an intriguing array of talent on either side of the camera, Don’t Worry Darling is a mostly muddled rehash of overly familiar themes.’
The audience ranking was higher with 74%, with a consensus that reads: ‘The ending isn’t for everyone, but the cast — especially Florence Pugh — helps Don’t Worry Darling make the most of a story with fairly few surprises.’
Don’t Worry Darling is now streaming on Netflix.
A version of this article was first published on March 25.

TVA former contestant of The 1% Club has opened up about her time on the ITV gameshow – and has revealed the secret trick she used to get on TV.
The Lee Mack-hosted quiz series, which started in 2022, sees 100 players attempting to solve tricky brain games to win a cash prize of £100,000.
Before the game begins, members of the public are asked to answer the same logic games and puzzles, with the one with the fewest correct answers being ranked as the hardest (1%) question.
15 questions whittle the contestants down from 100 as each wrong answers sees a player eliminated, until there is just one contestant – or a handful of contestants – left standing.
Ahead of the final round, the remaining players have a chance to either share £10,000… or take a stab at the question only 1% of public responders got right.
Heidi Phillips, 49, who appeared on The 1% Club in January 2025, managed to get to the 30% question before being knocked out of the competition.
Speaking to Fruity Slots, she explained how she got on TV in the first place: ‘I saw a post on Facebook and filled out the form and submitted a video audition telling them a little about myself. That was in June 2024.
‘[At my audition] I tried to showcase my personality. I’ve worked as an entertainer before, so I’m good in front of people. I made silly jokes that if I won the prize, I’d spend it on opening a trifle sandwich shop.’
She continued: ‘That would be my advice to anyone trying to get on the show. When they ask how you’ll spend the winnings, don’t say something boring like paying off the mortgage. Give a really wild answer.
‘It made me stand out. We did a mock quiz and I got the first question wrong, so I didn’t exactly shine on that. But I told the producers funny stories and I think they warmed to me and my answers.’
Heidi then revealed that if anyone fancies taking home the £100,000 via nefarious means, the show’s invigilators and producers will step in to make sure you don’t make off with an unfairly won prize.
‘If they go back through filming and see you glanced over at another contestant’s screen before answering, you’ll forfeit the prize. That’s not happened yet but it was a stern warning.’
Back in February, contestants like Heidi apparently wouldn’t have had to work too hard – or stare at their competitors’ screens – to answer what was supposed to be the toughest question in the game.
During an episode two months ago, fans of the show declared the final question – that none of the players answered correctly – was apparently incredibly obvious.
The 1% question was: The words below share a specific pattern. Why could VOTING also be part of the group? The words listed were bandleader, nickelodeon and silverback.
Lee then explained that the link between the three was that the words contained a metal – including lead, nickel, silver and tin – hidden within their letters.
Watch The 1% Club on ITV, 8.20pm on Saturday, and stream on ITVX.

TVPatsy Palmer has been revealed as one of the contestants on this year’s star-studded leaked Celebrity Big Brother line up.
On Monday April 7, hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best will return to front the showbiz edition of ITV’s beloved social experiment.
Rumours have been swirling around who exactly will be entering the famous compound, but it has now been revealed that the likes of Trisha Goddard, American actor Mickey Rourke and internet sensation JoJo Siwa will be among the names in the Big Brother house.
Entering alongside them will be EastEnders legend Patsy, who is known for playing feisty Bianca Jackson on and off in the soap since 1993.
Patsy, 52, has also appeared on Dancing On Ice and Strictly, and has been a regular on our screens since 1993, when Bianca was first introduced to Albert Square.
It remains to be seen if she will be anything like her fiery alter-ego in the house, but many viewers will remember her infamous Good Morning Britain interview.
After being invited on ITV’s breakfast show to speak with Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid, the former EastEnders actress stormed out in dramatic fashion.
Branded along the bottom of the screen said the words ‘addict to wellness guru’, which Patsy took great offense to.
While holding her dog in one hand, she said that she doesn’t want to do the interview anymore and shut down her laptop, to the dismay of the Good Morning Britain presenters.
One of the contestants on the show who will also certainly make some headlines will be Jojo Siwa.
In 2023, the star’s actions were deemed insensitive and disrespectful when she pretended to be pregnant.
Also making his way into the house will be Hollywood icon Mickey, 72, whose career in showbiz spans over four decades.
He is believed to have negotiated himself a seven-figure fee for his appearance.
Some of the actor’s best-known roles include starring in films such as The Wrestler, Iron Man 2 and The Expendables.
Another hugely anticipated contestant is former Love Islander Chris Hughes, 32, who has now forged a career for himself in punditry, covering horse racing and cricket.
He’ll be kept company by influencer and Towie’s Ella Rae Wise, 24, who is currently dating co-star Dan Edgar.
Celebrity Big Brother returns to ITV and ITVX on Monday, April 7.

TVA decade after featuring on Grand Designs, an ‘absolutely exquisite’ home has sold for a jaw-dropping £4,000,000.
In 2015, host Kevin McCloud travelled to the village of Colgate near Horsham in West Sussex to meet Clinton Dall, who was ‘willing to spend whatever it takes’ to build one of the largest homes ever featured on the long-running Channel 4 programme.
Arriving on site for the first time, Kevin was taken aback and exclaimed: ‘Bloody Nora, what Pandora’s box have you opened?’.
The single-storey glass and steel design was inspired by Mies Van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion.
At a massive 60 metres long, Kevin expressed concerns the project (which was called Pavello) set on a five-acre wooded plot might end up looking like a miniature airport or art gallery rather than a home. He also suggested the owner could face ‘financial ruin’.
Meanwhile the builder was also concerned about just how huge the home was. At 5,533 square feet, it was seven times the size of an average UK home.
But the sky was the limit for the ambitious project, which had no budget in place but had a 12-month deadline.
As Clinton, who ran a cleaning business, explained at the time: ‘I don’t want to compromise, I want it to be bang on.’
Like all builds featured on the show, he faced some challenges including issues with materials and ballooning costs.
However, his dream eventually came to fruition, with Clinton saying that ‘people didn’t really get it until it was finished’.
In the end he revealed the home cost £1.5 million to build, which came after he spent £850,000 on the land.
That included Kevin, who said this when visiting the property once it was finished. ‘I’m slightly awestruck by this – it’s so breathtakingly beautifully done.’
‘I think the colours and the furniture have exceeded my expectations,’ he says. ‘Everyone was worried at one point, because it’s vast and there’s so much glass, but I think it is softened by the furniture, the blue-and-grey walls and the wood veneer – I’m over the moon with that. It could have been a disaster, but it looks more like a home than I thought it would,’ Clinton told Grand Designs Magazine in 2021.
But two years later Clinton decided to sell up.
As he told the same publication, he ‘moves after a year or two as I get bored’.
‘But I must say this particular house does have a fantastic plot; it’s a great location and it’s been executed in exactly the way I wanted. I can’t think of anything better as far as I’m concerned, so from that point of view it’s the perfect house for me. But if one day I was flicking through a magazine and I spotted a plot of land with a lake or something, well, who knows…’
In 2017 Pavello was listed for £3.75 million. The asking price was dropped to £3.5 million the following year.
It then sold for £3.45 million at the start of 2019 but last year went up for sale again, for £4 million.
Photos of the property showed off its luxurious features.
The five-bedroom open-plan home, which has a glass exterior filling it with light, features a gym, spa and 15-metre swimming pool.
It also has underfloor heating throughout; all the bedrooms have ensuites and four have direct access to the pool.
Over the years the home was also rented out for use in a Peter Andre music video, was used to launch Michelle Keegan’s Lipsy range in 2016 and in a string of advertisements.
Grand Designs continues Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 4.

Amazon Prime subscribers can’t speak highly enough of an ‘intoxicating’ new action horror.
Starring Kevin Bacon, The Bondsman sees the Golden Globe winner portraying murdered bounty hunter Hub Halloran.
Yes, you read that correctly—murdered.
Resurrected by the Devil, he’s back from beyond the grave with a second chance at life, love… and his music career.
Things take a turn, however, when he’s entrusted with a new role: sending back demons who have busted out of Hell.
In the process, however, Halloran discovers how his own sinful life got him condemned.
The series premiered on April 3, with other cast members including Jennifer Nettles as Maryanne, Beth Grant as Kitty, Damon Herriman as Lucky, Maxwell Jenkins as Cade, and Jolene Purdy as Midge.
Upon discovering the rather gory new show, fans have taken to X with their reviews.
While the response has generally been mixed thus far, it seems those who love it truly can’t get enough.
Describing it as ‘absurdly fun’, @RamasScreen wrote: ‘THE BONDSMAN was gory, gnarly and intoxicating. It’s “Brimstone” meets “Ash Vs. Evil Dead” and I enjoyed every minute of it. Kevin Bacon totally kicked ass. A delightful blend of gut-wrenching tension, apocalyptic chaos and blood-squirting action.’
Heaping equal praise on Bacon’s co-star, Grant, @TheJosieMarie wrote: ‘If you love the humor and gore of ZOMBIELAND, you’ll devour THE BONDSMAN, starring Kevin Bacon. Half-hour comedy goodness with a tremendous duo at the forefront.’
@klhicks912 declared: ‘Watched the first season in one day and I need another season’.
Meanwhile, @caseymcknew hailed it as ‘one of the best series I’ve seen this year’, stating it’s ‘great’ to have Bacon back on the screen.
Over on review site Rotten Tomatoes, The Bondsman debuted with a 74% score from audiences, while positive top critics only just secured a majority with 57%.
It has an average rating of 5.6 out of 10, with some streamers claiming the supernatural show is ‘nothing new’.
But it’s clear there’s still plenty of appetite for more, and given that the first season ends on a cliffhanger, Bacon and co. are determined to deliver the goods.
‘All I can say is I have a plan,’ showrunner Erik Oleson told TV Insider.
‘We’ve got some really fun stuff planned, depending on whether or not the show is able to [return].’
In fact, the dramatic ending was written on purpose to pile pressure on Amazon to green-light a season 2.
‘I made it intentionally difficult for Amazon to not give us season 2 by ending it the way I did, because I’m evil.’
As for Bacon himself, the lead star, 66, has confirmed conversations are already being had about another outing.
‘We’ve already started to talk about it,’ he revealed when asked about a possible season 2, predicting plenty of ‘interesting’ action if given the chance to explore Halloran’s relationship with Maryanne.
Watch The Bondsman on Amazon Prime Video.

FilmThe Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is one of the most successful movie series of all time – but the actors playing the Hobbits didn’t exactly feel the full benefit.
Directed by Peter Jackson and filmed over the course of an entire year, the Lord of the Rings films became beloved the world over and have grossed $3billion since their release.
The sets used for fantasy adventure epics are still up, with the real-life locations in New Zealand still attracting millions of tourists from around the world.
But Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd – the actors who played the four main Hobbits – all earned much less than you’d think.
After making £3bn at the global box office, you’d expect the film’s leads to be swimming in their fortunes, but one of them has admitted that his paycheck ‘wasn’t massive’ after all.
Here are seven major Hollywood actors who all earned much less than expected – or were paid next to nothing – for some of their most iconic roles.
In an interview with Business Insider, Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood revealed that his paycheck for doing all three movies in the trilogy ‘wasn’t massive’.
Starring as Frodo Baggins, the Hobbit tasked with taking the One Ring to Mordor, Elijah was incredibly high on the cast list alongside names like Sir Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom.
But despite such a high position in the credits in three of the most successful films of all time, it turns out Elijah wasn’t exactly set for life afterwards.
‘Because we weren’t making one movie and then renegotiating a contract for the next, it wasn’t the sort of lucrative scenario that you could sort of rest easy for the rest of your life.’
The Lord of the Rings movies were all shot back-to-back over roughly an 18-month period, with completely separate scenes from The Two Towers and The Return of the King often filmed at the same time.
It’s never been fully disclosed exactly how much Elijah earned for playing Frodo, but his co-star Sean Astin – who played Samwise Gamgee – revealed he was paid around £190,000 for all three films.
Now, you’d hardly sniff at £63,000 per film and we don’t expect to see Elijah at job club any time soon, but considering the films grossed a figure that’s 15,000 times higher, you’d expect a little more to come the actors’ way.
George Clooney is one of the most famous faces in Hollywood, having starred in some of the most successful films of all time.
His net worth is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions and he’s won several accolades, including two Academy Awards and several Baftas and Golden Globes.
An actor of such status would surely be able to demand a high salary regardless of what kind of film he was making – but that wasn’t the case for his 2005 film Good Night and Good Luck.
Written and directed by George, the 63-year-old (43 at the time) starred in the film as well, which went on to receive a total of six Academy Award nominations.
But George was staggeringly only paid $3. That’s right. He earned just a dollar each for writing, acting, and directing the film that earned a healthy 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
He explained: ‘I didn’t want to make a film that would get compromised by studio executives, so I decided to finance it myself. It was a risk, but it felt like the right thing to do. 20 years from now, you want to be able to say to people that you stood for something besides your own career.’
Well, it has been 20 years, and we can say that statement is true. It seems George had the last laugh anyway, with Good Night and Good Luck now a Broadway production that’s raked in over £2million already.
If you haven’t seen American Psycho, starring Christian Bale, then you will have definitely seen the dozens of memes the film is responsible for.
A cult classic, the satirical horror film didn’t make much money at first, but has slowly built up a reputation as one of the best and most popular films of the 2000s.
However, Christian has revealed that his salary for working on American Psycho ultimately amounted to ‘less than the make-up artists who worked on the film’.
He told GQ: ‘I had a house that I was sharing with my dad and my sister and that was getting repossessed. So the first thing was, “Holy crap. I’ve got to get a bit of money.”
‘I remember one time, I was sitting in the make-up trailer and the make-up artists were laughing at me because I was getting paid less than any of them.’
He continued: ‘So that was my motivation after that, it was just, “I’ve got to get enough money that the house doesn’t get repossessed.”‘
Jennifer Lopez once insisted, in her 2002 hit song, that while she ‘used to have a little’ and ‘now [has] a lot,’ she was very much still Jenny from the block.
And the superstar actress, singer, and businesswoman remembered those homely values when she landed the role of Romana Vega in the 2019 crime film Hustlers.
The film made over £120million at the global box office and received a positive reaction from critics, with the film currently sitting at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes – Jennifer was even touted as a potential Oscar nominee for her role.
Despite this, the Love Don’t Cost a Thing hitmaker was paid absolutely nothing, telling GQ: ‘I didn’t get paid a whole bunch of money for Hustlers.’
She continued: ‘I did it for free and produced it. I bank on myself. Like Jenny From the Block — I do what I want, I do what I love,’ adding that she has ‘never been motivated by money’.
Jennifer did receive several best supporting actress awards for her work on the film, but Hustlers was famously snubbed by the Academy when Oscars season came around.
Bill Murray and film director Wes Anderson have worked together on no less than 10 films together, with the two striking up their partnership for the 1998 film Rushmore.
Starring Bill alongside a young Jason Schwartzman, the independently produced film was co-written by Wes and actor Owen Wilson and barely made back its $10million budget.
This means Bill took a salary of just $9,000 (£6,900) for almost half a year’s work, and even offered to pay £25,000 for a shot of his character from the film riding in a helicopter.
While Rushmore only made around $17million (£13m) at the box office, Wes Anderson’s career only went upwards, and the two have continued to work together since.
In 2004, Wes and Bill teamed up for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which started with a budget of $50million (£39.5m), considerably higher than that of Rushmore.
For her performance in 1999 film Boys Don’t Cry, Hilary Swank won the Academy Award for best actress, beating the likes of Laura Linney and Ellen Burstyn.
The emotional film, which has since been added to America’s National Film Registry, depicted the real-life story of transgender man Brandon Teena, who was murdered in 1993.
Hilary, who was one of the biggest names in Hollywood through the 1990s and 2000s, was paid just $3,000 (£2,300) for her work on the film, which took almost two months for Hilary to complete.
In fact, her salary was so low that Hilary wasn’t able to secure health insurance with the amount she was paid, which required a payment of $5,000 to qualify.
The film currently boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an average score of 7.9 out of 10, with Hilary’s performance in particular praised by critics.
We started this list with a Lord of the Rings star, so we’ll end it with another – Sir Christopher Lee played the wizard Saruman in the Peter Jackson trilogy.
But way before he was playing evil wizards, Sir Christopher was the lead in the legendary 1973 folk horror film The Wicker Man, also starring Edward Woodward.
The film follows the story of Woodward’s Sgt. Howie, who visits the fictional north Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl.
What he finds there is a community that has abandoned Christianity and embraced a violent and sinister form of ancient Celtic paganism.
Made on a budget of just £470,000 (equivalent to £5m in 2025), Sir Christopher was so passionate about The Wicker Man that he waived his salary just to get the film made.
Beyond that, Sir Christopher reached out to every film critic or writer he knew and asked them if they could spread the word themselves in order for the film to make back its money.
When the film was released in the United States in 1975, he travelled over the Atlantic, paying out of his own pocket, to advertise and promote the film in America himself.
