GamingIt turns out Pokémon trading card decks are sturdy enough to block a bullet, as one lucky fan found out to his surprise.
There are many reasons to buy Pokémon trading cards, be it the game itself, the pleasure of collecting, or to hoard the rarest ones and sell them for exorbitant prices on eBay.
Now, we can add one more reason to the list: because they act as an impromptu bulletproof shield, if someone tries to shoot you.
This week, one fan shared a story online about how their own collection of Pokémon cards miraculously blocked a bullet aimed at their chest.
The fan, known as LolaInSlacks88 on Reddit, didn’t have the cards in their breast pocket, like you see all the time in movies and TV shows, but nevertheless they did act as a shield to protect him from incoming fire.
As they explained on the Pokémon Trading Card Game subreddit, they were asleep at home when they were awoken by loud explosions. Apparently, this was a common enough occurrence for LolaInSlacks88 to assume these were gunshots being fired by their neighbour.
They believe the neighbour had accidentally fired their gun towards LolaInSlacks88’s house, as they found a hole in their wall next to a Tupperware bin containing their Pokémon card collection.
Upon inspecting the bin, they found the bullet had been stopped by one of their card decks. Perhaps fittingly, it was a deck themed around the pokémon Incineroar, who is famously overpowered in the competitive circuit – at least for the video games.
‘The actual 9mm bullet was still inside the box. If it hadn’t been there, it would have likely struck me while I was asleep as it was level with my bed,’ wrote LolaInSlacks88, following up with an image of a police report (with personal info obviously blacked out) to prove they weren’t fibbing.
‘I’m okay, but I now count Incineroar as my guardian angel pokémon and have never been happier to have piles of cardboard in my box. You never know–they might stop a bullet!’
It doesn’t sound like their neighbour faced any consequences (the report says the police couldn’t find enough evidence to identify who was responsible), so LolaInSlacks88 can only hope it doesn’t happen again.
In a reply to another Redditor, they said, ‘Of course no one admitted to doing it. But they stopped using their property like a shooting range, so hopefully they learned their lesson.’

TVCharlotte Chilton thanked fans for their support as she spoke directly about Conor Maynard’s paternity test results for the first time.
The Traitors star spent several months claiming the music artist was the father of her baby after the pair were introduced at the Traitors wrap party last January through mutual friend Harry Clark.
Conor maintained his silence throughout 2024, including when Charlotte gave birth to her daughter Penelope in October last year.
However, in March he finally addressed the ongoing speculation in a social media statement announcing that a paternity test taken under the supervision of legal representation confirmed he was not the father of Charlotte’s baby.
Up until now, Charlotte has continued to post photos of family life with her young daughter – but not offered any direct response to Conor’s bombshell statement until now.
In an Instagram story, she wrote: ‘A lot of people want me to address the comments regarding Conor. There will be a time and a place for this.
‘Unfortunately I am not allowed to do this right now… Just know I love all the support I have received and I appreciate all the love we continuously have been receiving !!
‘Love Charlotte and Penelope xxx.’

It implies that she may reveal more in the future, although it is unclear when and how much.
In Conor’s denial that he was the father, he wrote: ‘I am glad that the speculation can finally be put to an end.
‘All I would ask is that people act with kindness in response to this news – there is a child at the heart of all of this, and that should not be forgotten.
‘I wish Charlotte and her family all the best.’
But sources close to Charlotte said she was ‘still convinced’ she was the father of his baby.
‘Charlotte has always been adamant about who Penelope’s father is and her daughter is the spitting image of Conor,’ a source told The Sun.
The insider added that she was ‘bitterly disappointed’ and reportedly looking into ensuring Conor ‘takes a second test’.
Conor’s representatives issued a firm denial following claims of a second test on the horizon.
Representatives told MailOnline: ‘It is very difficult to understand how the location of the paternity test would have changed the results.
‘To be clear, this test was conducted by a registered nurse in the presence of Charlotte’s legal representative.
‘The results have clearly drawn a line under the matter, and we can only hope that Charlotte can find a way to move forward.’
Shortly after, Conor uploaded a photo of him moving into a new home with his partner.
‘‘On to a new chapter.. (the photo was taken on a grey, miserable day so I edited the sky.. I wanted to use the second slide but Kitty wouldn’t let me),’ he captioned the post, sharing a photo with his girlfriend in the driveway of the property he had just purchased.
April 24: Charlotte announces she is pregnant with a ‘miracle’ baby on social media but does not reveal who the father is. At the time she called the news ‘a shock to say the least’.
June 5: Charlotte reveals to Metro that Conor is the father of her baby. Conor does not address these reports publicly.
June 22: In an interview with The Sun, Charlotte claimed Conor has ‘turned on her’ upon hearing she was pregnant.
August: Charlotte is hospitalised after suffering from a ‘painful and debilitating’ condition as she shares her difficult pregnancy experience to her followers. She maintains that Conor is the father of her baby.
October 18: Her daughter, Penelope, is born. Days later, Conor posts to social media but does not address this latest development.
November 24: Charlotte says she has still ‘not heard anything’ and claimed that Penelope like ‘identical’ to him. She added that she ‘wouldn’t deny [Conor] contact if Penelope wants to see him’ in the future.
March 14, 2025:Conor finally releases a statement that a paternity test with legal representative present proved he is not the father of this baby. He wished Charlotte and Penelope the best with hopes of ‘putting speculation to rest’.
March 19: Charlotte is yet to directly address Conor’s statement, and has only posted one photo to social media of her daughter. A source told The Sun that Charlotte is questioning the accuracy of the results and wants to ensure Conor takes another test.
‘It’s been an exhausting fight between them,’ the source added.
The same day Conor posts to Instagram about starting ‘a new chapter’ with his partner Kitty as they move into a new home together.
After Penelope was born, Charlotte doubled down on Conor being her father, and slammed his absence.
‘There’s been days where I’ve been in tears because I’m sitting here thinking, “I’ve got a daughter that looks f*****g identical to you.”,’ she told OK! Magazine at the time.
‘She’s got his eyes, his hair, his facial expressions,’ she continued, adding that she was prepared to ‘do this alone’.
In her post announcing Penelope’s birth she wrote: ‘Princess Penelope has arrived and we have been enjoying our “Penelope bubble” so much, I am going to be off the radar for a little longer, whilst I enjoy these magical moments with my precious girl!!
‘Thank you to all that have checked in to make sure I am ok!! 💗 my heart is full xx’

TVFreddie Prinze Jr had such a ‘terrible’ experience on action series 24, he took a hiatus from acting and considered quitting Hollywood altogether.
The source of the Scooby Doo actor’s contention was his co-star Kiefer Sutherland, who played the show’s lead character, maverick intelligence agent Jack Bauer.
‘Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world,’ Prinze Jr, 49, candidly told ABC News in 2014. ‘That’s not me talking trash, I’d say it to his face. I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.’
The She’s All That actor claimed he was forced to remove his shoes during scenes with Sutherland, implying that the 58-year-old was self-conscious about their height difference.
Prinze Jr continued: ‘I didn’t have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do [at 24]. Just put the guy on an apple box or don’t hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4.’
The I Know What You Did Last Summer divulged no further details about his 24-episode tenure playing Cole Ortiz in the 2010 season of 24, but it made him rethink his entire career.
He said: ‘I hated every moment of it. I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped.’
According to IMDb, Prinze Jr took a two-year break from acting after his 2010 commitments, eventually returning to TV movie Happy Valley, which also starred Mena Suvari.
Sutherland’s spokesperson said he was completely unaware of Prinze Jr’s complaints.
They told Fox News in 2014: ‘Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze, Jr. more than five years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie’s grievances.
They concluded: ‘Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.’
Prinze Jr’s 24 character Cole Ortiz was the director of field operations at the Counter Terrorist Unit Los Angeles Division, working alongside Bauer.
He starred in the show in the eighth season.
Sutherland, meanwhile, portrayed Jack Bauer from 24’s debut in 2002 for nine seasons until it ended in 2014.
Each season covers 24 consecutive hours as Bauer races against the clock to save the world from impending terror attacks and threats.
Sutherland previously spoke to Metro about the show, which he described as a blessing for an actor.
He said: ‘If you want to make it to the Olympics, you train every day. Right? And if you want to develop and really become a better actor you have to work every day. And 24 afforded me that opportunity.
‘I love the character. And I love the show. And I love the people that I got to make it with. So there wasn’t a downside.’
Sutherland also revealed there had been informal discussions about a 24 reboot.
He added cryptically: ‘One of two things is going to have to happen in the show that they didn’t let us do in the last one. So we’ll see what happens if we get to go again.’

It’s that time again when Charlie Brooker reminds us that we’re all doomed – but which Black Mirror episodes hit the mark this season and which fall short?
The sci-fi dystopian series on Netflix prides itself on its ability to delve into the disturbing crevices of our psyche and offer both horrifying and revolutionary ways in which technology could evolve in humanity’s future.
In seasons past we’ve had pig f***ing, child killers tortured through forced amnesia, blackmail with a perverse twist and dating app woes.
And season seven offers up a whole new palate (and for the first time, some returning favourites).
There’s a spiralling look at the future of healthcare, a dive into the dangers of AI in Hollywood, a workplace where not everything is as it seems, an anguished trip down memory lane and video game horror stories.

So, which ones are actually worth tuning into?
This episode follows an isolated man, Phillip, who uses a piece of technology to re-enter long buried memories when someone – clearly once beloved – from his youth dies.
He embarks on a deeply emotional journey as he tries to reconcile the decisions he made at the time and the regrets he’ll live with for the rest of his life.
There’s no doubt that Paul Giamatti is an astounding actor, and the emotion he can convey, whether bittersweet melancholy or nostalgic yearning, is perhaps the one saving grace of this episode which culminates in a memorable finale.
But the 40 minutes it takes to get there feel more like four hours.
Depending on the mood you’re in, you might find yourself enjoying this slow-paced and somewhat frustrating tale. But for most, as was the case for me, it feels like being forced to listen to a sermon about the life of someone you don’t know, and don’t particularly care about.
I found myself getting easily distracted and thought the main character’s hang-ups and past motives baffling enough to turn me off the entire plot.
Perhaps it can hold up as a vignette of first love but as a Black Mirror episode it came across as a snooze fest that pulled through too little too late.
Look, there’s a reason San Junipero is one of the most acclaimed episodes in the show’s history. But given Hotel Reverie is the second sapphic love story in the Black Mirror universe – the AI, slightly fantastical elements of the romance were perhaps too similar for comfort.
It’s an episode already doomed to be compared to San Junipero given its central queer themes and Charlie Brooker doesn’t give it a running chance to stand on its own two feet with a far-removed concept.
Comparisons aside, there are definitely some great aspects to this episode – not least Emma Corrin’s gorgeous performance as golden age Hollywood starlet Clara.
When Issa Rae’s character, a modern-day actor, is offered the chance to act opposite Clara in a classic movie through AI technology, soon everything begins to fall apart.
Unfortunately it takes slightly too long to be convinced of Issa and Emma’s chemistry and the way the plot unfolds seems to be focused on all the wrong elements, culminating in a middling ending despite the solid set up.
There are plenty of fun elements to this episode though, including Awkwafina’s chaotic performance and the high-stakes threat to keep the plot moving no matter the curveballs thrown everyone’s way.
Next we have Bete Noir. This episode unfolds like a good ol’ Black Mirror mystery where viewers are plunged into the perspective of our main character whose life takes a strange, and maddening, turn for the worst when a ghost from her secondary-school past lands a job at her workplace.
It’s a brilliant study of gaslighting, toxic workplace dynamics and has racial undertones that naturally evolve on screen. And, frankly, it’s an inventive (and refreshing) use of technology in a sea of recent episodes that sometimes feel like they are treading on each other’s toes.
I was gripped by the escalating mystery and it had a real old-school Black Mirror aesthetic to it bolstered by the stand-out performances from Siena Kelly and Rosy McEwan.
The main thing letting this episode down is, once more, the ending which is slightly underwhelming after such a climactic episode. It’s rewatchable but doesn’t quite make it into absolutely classic territory.
Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones play married couple Mike and Amanda, whose lives implode when Amanda is forced to rely on a new high-tech, and pricey, healthcare system to stay alive.
It perhaps loses points for originality (humans have long dissected the disastrous consequences of privatising healthcare) but the human element of this story, matched with powerhouse performances from both Chris and Rashida, make this shine.
It’s not afraid to get dark, and at points I thought it could have been helped by getting even darker since it felt as though it didn’t go quite full throttle enough to drive the point home.
But it all crescendos in a powerful ending scene that will stay with you long after the credits start rolling which is Black Mirror at its best.
Peter Capaldi grounds this impressive episode that delves into the repressed and demented depths of the human soul – and just how far video games can change our reality.
When a nervous young reporter, Cameron (played by Lewis Gribben), is asked to review a new video game created by Bandersnatch’s Colin Ritter (Will Poulter) the consequences stretch far beyond a simple article.
The build-up has a rich tension and you truly feel that horrible sensation crawl through you as though watching a car crash in slow motion.
Flitting between past and present (the older version of Cameron is played by Capaldi), we start to put together the pieces of the decades-long impact one chance meeting has had on this man’s life.
And the ending will be sure to spark plenty of theories of exactly what went down… and why. So, strap in for a head-scratcher.
The original USS Callister has stood the test of time, exploring themes around abuse of power, male ego, and how far ownership over our bodies extends in an era when technological giants seem to be losing control of the steering wheel.
The cast returns for a poignant, and just as engaging follow up, with our crew attempting to navigate Infinity as undercover game users when up against 35 million paying players.
In the real world, as Robert Daly’s death looms large over the company’s head, reality and fiction fuse when we delve into the history of Infinity and just how far Nanette and her friends are willing to go to survive.
It’s a crowdpleaser that follows beloved characters that we’re already invested in while still offering something new to chew on, whether it’s another aspect of technological abuse or a fresh set of moral conundrums in Charlie’s complex web.
For those who loved USS Callister, it’s likely you’ll find this just as enjoyable. And for the sceptics, this might just win you around.
Black Mirror season seven is available to stream now.

TVBritain’s Got Talent star Órán McConville has sadly died after he was involved in a car accident on Saturday morning.
Tributes have begun pouring in for the star who found fame as a child on the competition show when he took part in 2017 with his school choir, and reached the semi-finals.
This news comes just weeks after a family tragedy as McConville’s father died in February.
The star’s sister Rachael also died at age 11 after being involved in a car accident.
At his Requiem Mass, which took place in Drumgath, Co Down, parish priest Fr Charles Byrne said: ‘Oran’s tragic death early on Saturday morning has brought devastating shock and grief to his family, to his friends, to our local community here and the wider community around it.’

He continued: ‘As we all know, just six weeks ago we were here for Oran’s father Paddy and 16 years ago you had the death of young Rachael.
‘At this time we are all lost for words. Words are woefully inadequate to express the pain and the sorrow in our hearts that we have for you.’

His sudden death has shaken the wider community, with various businesses and friends sharing tributes and condolences.
Drumgath GAC, where McConville played as a boy and went on to coach, shared a heartfelt tribute.
‘Órán was so much more than a young man- he was a bright light in our community. Kind, gentle, full of humour, and always up for a chat, Órán had that rare ability to make everyone feel at ease in his company.
‘He had time for people, young and old, and brought joy to those lucky enough to have known him. Whether it was on the football pitch or in the heart of the community, Órán carried himself with warmth, respect, and quiet charm.’
The post listed his achievements in the local Gaelic Athletic Club and fondly remembered his personality, touching on what a tragic time this is for his mother Amanda and brother Shea.
‘Órán’s sudden death has left our entire club and wider community in deep shock and sorrow. A young man full of promise, kindness, and spirit, Órán had so much life ahead of him. He was a cherished friend to many, a teammate, and a beloved son and brother.
‘This tragedy is made all the more poignant as it comes just six weeks after the passing of his father, Paddy, and 16 years after the heartbreaking loss of his sister, Rachael.
‘Our hearts go out to his loving mother, Amanda, and his devoted brother, Shéa- for any family to endure such loss is beyond comprehension. We offer them our full support, prayers, and strength in the days, weeks, and months ahead.’
Previous employers all paid tribute to the star and cancelled events in the wake of the mourning.
‘Órán was an exceptional young man who was deeply cherished by everyone at FunFit. He made an unforgettable impact on all of us as a coach, and his passion, dedication, and kindness will never be forgotten. He coached in our schools, and anyone who had the privilege of working with him knows exactly what kind of person he was—someone who brought light, energy, and unwavering support to everyone around him.
‘The entire FunFit team is in shock, and no words can fully capture the depth of our grief at this moment. Órán was not just a coach; he was a vital and loved member of our team. His presence and contribution will be missed more than we can express.’
Calmor Properties added: ‘We at Calmor Properties had the honor and privilege to have worked with Oran McConville. Oran worked with us during 2023 in Gantry Lane. During his time with us he became a valued member of our team and managed to work his way into our hearts.
‘Heartfelt condolences to his mum, Amanda, his brother, Shea, his extended family and his many friends. It is with a smile that we will remember Oran. RIP Oran x’

TVMickey Rourke has revealed what his real name is on Celebrity Big Brother following his controversial comments.
The Hollywood star has joined the likes of Chris Hughes, Jack P Shepherd and Trisha Goddard in what has been branded the ‘best’ line-up ever.
However, fans have slammed the 72-year-old for his homophobic comments towards fellow housemate Jojo Siwa.
His actions towards host AJ Odudu during Monday’s launch night were also labelled ‘vile’ and ‘creepy’.
But viewers are getting plenty more of Mickey on our screens it seems, and now, after talk show legend Trisha greeted him in the morning, putting on an Irish accent, the actor’s real identity was revealed.
Singer Chesney Hawkes remarked: ‘I guess you must have Irish roots, with a name like Rourke. Is that your actual name by the way?’
‘No my real name is Philip Andre,’ the Hollywood actor replied.
When asked where his stage name came from, he coyly replied: ‘That’s a long story.’

On Celebrity Big Brother 2025, Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke sparked uproar with homophobic comments that he made towards internet sensation JoJo Siwa.
Speaking in the House, Rourke, 72, asked Siwa, 21: ‘So do you like girls or boys?’
‘Me? Girls,’ Siwa answered, to which Rourke responded: ‘I know, I could tell.’
After the dancer shared that her partner is non-binary, the housemates who were in the garden started to talk about the eviction due to take place that week on Friday night.
‘If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore,’ Rourke remarked, as Siwa said back to him: ‘I can guarantee I will still be gay and I will still be in a very happy relationship.’
‘I’ll tie you up,’ The Wrestler actor replied.
‘I can promise you that won’t happen,’ Siwa stated. ‘I dare you to try, you’ll be the one tied up.’
Rourke then spoke to some other housemates, asking about the process of voting out other contestants on Celebrity Big Brother.
‘I’m going to vote the lesbian out real quick,’ he said, as Siwa – who was lying on a sun lounger – turned her head towards him and declared: ‘That’s homophobic.’
‘Eh?’ Rourke asked, as Siwa continued: ‘That’s homophobic if that was your reasoning.’
After the actor repeated that he was going to ‘vote the lesbian out’, he then exclaimed: ‘I need a fag’ in reference to wanting a cigarette.
However, he then gestured towards Siwa and quipped: ‘Not talking to you,’ seemingly referencing the f word that’s used as an anti-gay slur.
Love Island star Chris Hughes, who was sitting next to Rourke, told him: ‘You can’t say that Mickey,’ while Siwa kept her composure and said: ‘One breath at a time troops, one breath at a time.’
After Hughes repeated his warning to Rourke, the actor insisted that he had been talking about a cigarette before walking off on his own.
The reality TV star went over to check on Siwa, consoling her as she cried in his arms over the upset. At the same time, Rourke was called to the Diary Room, where he received a formal warning for his remarks.
Later on inside the lounge, Rourke went over to Siwa as he told her: ‘I want to apologise,’ telling her that he has a ‘bad habit of having a short fuse’.
‘I don’t mean nothing by it. Ok sorry,’ he said as he shook her hand, while she told him that she appreciated his apology.
Rourke’s homophobic comments towards Siwa happened a day after he was criticised for touching presenter AJ Odudu ‘inappropriately’ on stage.
The long story he is referring to includes his abusive childhood before he became a movie star.
Born Phillip Andre Rourke Jr, he was named after his father who gave him the nickname Mickey due to him being a fan of the baseball player Mickey Mantle, The Sun reports.
But, after his father left his family home at an early age, Mickey’s step-father abused him, which led him to pick up boxing to get ‘hard’.
He then also used the nickname his father gave him instead of his real name.
This comes after fans’ minds were ‘blown’ after discovering Patsy Palmer’s real name as well.
Living in close quarters, the housemates have been getting to know one another since the ITV show launched on Monday.
On last night’s Celebrity Big Brother episode, The Sandman actress Donna Preston was somewhat star-struck to be talking to soap legend Patsy, referring to her as her former EastEnders character Bianca Jackson.
‘It’s crazy that I’m talking to you, Bianca. Patsy Palmer, obviously. Great name. Really great name.’ the 38-year-old admitted.
But then Patsy dropped a bombshell: ‘My name’s not really Patsy Palmer, though. It’s Julie.’
In utter shock, Donna swore in response.
Celebrity Big Brother fans had a similar reaction to Donna’s on Instagram, with @Vickyfilthysentiments exclaiming: ‘There is no way anyone can start calling her Julie after all this time 😂👏 love it though. Mind boggle.’
@thatsabsolutelyanthony commented: ‘I thought this was a bit but Julie is actually her name.’
Echoing their sentiment, @dannmward shared: ‘Donna’s reaction spoke for us all.’
@kerryriches23 added: ‘Omg really?? This is amazing 👏🏻 and this is why we love @bbuk.’
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1.

Next week, WWE icon CM Punk will finally live his dream of main eventing WrestleMania, but things could have been very different.
The 46-year-old superstar, who will face SmackDown star Roman Reigns and Raw fan favourite Seth Rollins on April 19 in Las Vegas, has battled against the odds to become a living legend in the wrestling world.
Asked what he’d be if he wasn’t a wrestler, Punk exclusively told Metro: ‘I’d be dead or in jail right now, 100%, and I’ve narrowly avoided jail multiple times.
‘I really don’t know, it’s hard for me to say, “I was interested in this” and “I was interested in that”, “maybe I would have done this.” ‘
He was ‘out priced’ of chasing his ice hockey dreams, but professional wrestling gave the Chicago outcast an outlet.

‘You ask kids nowadays, what do you want to be when you grow up? And unfortunately, I think a lot of people say “I want to be famous”. That sucks. Fame sucks. Fame is a side effect of being successful at what I do,’ he pondered.
‘I wanted to be a wrestler. I never said I wanted to be a millionaire. I never said I wanted to be a WWE superstar. I wanted to be a wrestler. I got a pair of boots and I started wrestling.’
Starting his career in 1997, Punk worked his way up the ranks, becoming a star in Ring of Honor five years later and soon earning himself a WWE developmental deal in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) under the tutelage of Paul Heyman.
The bond they formed led to him being called up to WWE’s ECW revival in 2006, and a career changing move to Raw two years later.
Punk had already been learning from the greats, including several experiences working with Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero in 2002 during a difficult time in Latino Heat’s life.
‘He was real sad. He’d been fired, he’s going through a divorce. He didn’t know when he was going to see his kids,’ Punk recalled.
‘And when you’re on the top like he was, to go back – and he’s working in indies. There’s that part of you that “I feel sorry for this guy. He’s here. He’s working with me in this Columbus Hall in Indianapolis”.
‘But he wrestled me like it was the main event of WrestleMania.’
Punk was inspired by the notion of making Guerrero, who died aged 38 in November 2005, proud by emulating him in the ring.
‘I used to be able to just pick up the phone, call him and be like, “Hey”. He taught me, it’s not about moves, it’s about when you do them,’ he said.
‘He taught me about the connection between your fans and you and making it emotional. He taught me so much, invaluable experience was learned working with him.’
He also learnt from the likes of Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Chris Candido and Tracy Smothers, taking on board everything the veterans taught him.
One man Punk constantly refers to his as ‘wrestling soulmate’ is John Cena, who will be performing at WrestleMania next week for the last time ahead of his retirement in December.
There was a time it seemed like the pair were destined to battle in the main event of the Showcase of the Immortals, but it wasn’t to be – although fans still see their 2013 match on Monday Night Raw as a match worthy of that stage.
‘I had the flu, I had a fever, and I was just f***ing angry. I said “Well, this is the main event of WrestleMania. I know you guys are doing that, but that’s what this is”.
‘So nobody could tell me anything, I did what I wanted. That’s probably the best match in my career. There was just an energy, and there was a buzz in the building. I think part of that is because I was just fuelled by anger at that point in my career. It got me out of bed.’
Punk walked out of WWE a year later and left the wrestling business for almost a decade, exploring other passions and projects in the UFC and movie world.
After returning to wrestling for a chaotic spell with rivals AEW, Punk was back in WWE by November 2023, and their bumper Netflix deal gives him scope to expand his acting ambitions.
As well as comic book adaptation Revival and a new movie Night Patrol, Punk is excited to push things further.
‘The Netflix thing is interesting, because I think they want to specifically find projects not only for me, but other superstars that they feel can cross over,’ he said.
‘I would love to do stuff with Cena. I would love to do stuff with anybody, really. I’m in it to learn. And in that respect, I’m an artist. I want to do stuff that’s fulfilling.’
That’s not to say Punk has any immediate plans to hang up his boots, and he’s not looking to a Cena-esque retirement tour any time soon.
‘No, because you never know what’s going to happen. If you would ask me when I was 26 if I would be wrestling when I was 46, I would have been like, “No way,”‘ he laughed.
‘The business has changed so much, the miles that we put on our bodies for years and years and years, and now we’re here, and we’re wrestling maybe once a month, we’re doing one show a week.’
That said, after a heartbreaking injury forced him out of a WrestleMania match last year, he’s determined to stay strong for next weekend’s big show.
‘Part of me is like, wrap me in bubble wrap on the road to WrestleMania. [But] this is a tough business, injuries happen,’ he shrugged. ‘Just get that out of your head. You’re tougher than you probably think. Just go forward and do what you always do.’
WWE WrestleMania 41 heads to Las Vegas on April 19 and 20. Tune in live on Netflix.

Sliding scale
I do love a new console launch, even and especially all the controversy over prices and pre-orders and whether it’s worth getting straight away. For me it’s a question for a new PlayStation but not really a Nintendo console. Well… there was the Wii U, but after the quality of the Switch 1 and the mostly positive Direct I’m committed to getting a Switch 2 at launch.
Mario Kart World is clearly great and Donkey Kong Bananza probably too, so I have no doubts that it’ll be worth it right from the start. Things can go wrong after but that’s the same for any console, it’s just one of the risks you have to take.
I’m not going in with eyes close though. The price of the games is definitely a concern but the third party games aren’t necessarily going to be that expensive and, let’s face it, Nintendo games don’t come out that often. Or at least not ones that they’re likely to charge £75 for – they’re not even doing that with Donkey Kong.
I think Nintendo did make mistakes at the Direct and a big one was not saying how much the other games are. If they’d made it clear that things like Hyrule Warriors and Kirby: Air Riders are only £50 or so (they better be) then I think that would’ve helped to make things look a lot fairer. Strange to see such a veteran company make mistakes like that but, well, I already mentioned the Wii U.

Robin from the poor
Although I wasn’t lucky enough to receive an invite from Nintendo directly, I have to admit that I am fully supportive of their approach to Switch 2 pre-orders, and I do hope that Sony and others follow suit in the future.
The invite system is a clear attempt to get consoles into the hands of their most loyal customers, rather than scalpers, and this is to be applauded. I was caught off guard by the online retailers on Friday and had a frustrating few hours trying to get orders through on various websites – well done to any ‘real’ people who got one but these systems are heavily biased towards bots and even as I was desperately trying to refresh a console into my basket I could already see that they were popping up on eBay for £650+.
Now I know that for online retailers a sale is a sale, and having had a similar experience with the PlayStation 5 a few years ago, I of course have to remind myself that scalpers are just modern-day Robin Hood figures really. Or at least they would be if the version they are reading involved Robin paying a fair price to the rich for the goods he is intercepting, then offering them to the poor for twice as much. But it’s OK, because Robin does give some of the money he’s fleecing from people to charity.
For the benefit of other readers, I would strongly recommend registering for updates from Currys, who along with Nintendo appear to be the exception to the free-for-all rule. Having been stuck at work last Friday, I feared the worst when I walked into the store at 9am the following morning but I was the only person there and within five minutes I’d managed to buy a Mario Kart bundle and Pro Controller with the minimum of fuss. It was a slightly anachronistic experience but entirely stress free and welcome!
Going forward, I only hope that other console manufacturers and retailers are brave enough to learn from this.

Wither thou goest, Switch 2?
Awful, just awful!
This has happened so many times before with the Switch, then the Switch OLED, so I shouldn’t really be surprised that it’s happening again with the Switch 2!
I’ve been a long-term Nintendo owner, from the barren Wii U years to the awesome Switch and Switch OLED years. I have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription with days of gameplay and I even got lucky with Switch 2 launch tickets too, but in some weird Nintendo way I didn’t get an invite from Nintendo Direct to buy one?
Instead, I’ve gone elsewhere to get one. I just hope this situation isn’t going to happen with the games. When the Wii U was a flop there were almost no third party games and there weren’t enough first party games to make up the difference, leaving a withering platform.

Stairway to heaven
With the news of a Universal Studios theme park coming to the UK, does that mean we can expect a Nintendo World in due time?
Would be a great way for Nintendo to capitalise on a chance to promote itself in one of its weaker markets.
In other news, with Rainbow Road being confirmed for Mario Kart World, and the new addition of driving to the next circuit, will we be seeing some kind of escalating highway to reach the spacey heights of Rainbow Road?
That would be a sight to behold as opposed to a barrel blast into space!
Bad Edit
Any port in a storm
So, luck was on my side. Amazon has come through for me, as unfortunately I didn’t receive an invite to purchase the console from Nintendo. Still, I was very lucky indeed. As soon as I secured my pre-order it’s unavailable. That quickly it went out of stock, I’m still quite flabbergasted.
I also wanted to talk about some of the ports, that are being developed for the Switch 2. I appreciate Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. I’d also deeply appreciate a port release of the hardest title I’ve ever played, the legendary Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It would drive sales further and I think it would run amazing on the hardware.
We never saw a port of Dark Souls 2 or 3 for the original Switch and, for me personally, only featuring the first game was disappointing. Sekiro deserves to be featured on Nintendo’s brand and, let’s be honest, they would jump at the opportunity to feature another title that is overpriced, just as Mario and Zelda are. A match made in heaven. I’ll keep the faith and my joy at securing a pre-order intact.

Capricious Day
I disagree with GC’s assertion that Nintendo erred by not delaying its Switch 2 Direct in light of the tariffs.
First, Trump had taken a capricious approach to tariffs since January. He announced tariffs on Mexico and Canada, then delayed them after getting some minor concessions; implemented them a month later before delaying most of them again a couple of days later. Reasonable doubt, then, that ‘Liberation Day’ would actually go ahead.
Also, the consensus from experts was that the tariffs were worse than expected. While the measures against China and the EU were not a surprise, those against Japan, Vietnam, and Cambodia were – and foiled Nintendo’s plans to avoid the tariffs against China.
Most important is the reputational damage a delay would have caused. While America is a huge market for Nintendo, there is worldwide interest in the Switch 2. Also worldwide is a growing anti-American sentiment, due to the administration’s rhetoric towards Greenland, Gaza, Canada, and many other places.
If Nintendo delayed its much-anticipated reveal due to American political machinations, they would have been judged as weak and kowtowing to America. Especially in their home country – let’s not forget that Japan has its own nationalist streak.
(Just as I’m writing this, I learned that pre-orders have been delayed in Canada, too. Further proving that delaying the Direct would have been pointless as key details on pre-orders and a possible price increase are still hazy one week later.)
I think Nintendo may silently be thanking Trump though, for taking some of the heat off them. If Americans suddenly have to pay $100-$150 extra for the console, the anger will be directed at him and only him.
Mike
GC: We’d say the reputational damage of having to delay pre-orders in North America is much worse than simply delaying the whole Direct by a day, but what’s done is done. We certainly pity the Nintendo bean counter that has to give advice on what to do now.
Missing out
I have had the complete opposite experience to TGN Professor. The Switch pre-order system has been a complete nightmare, I wish I had ordered from Amazon, as I usually do. The verification code sent to my email takes too long to arrive then doesn’t work. I’ve had five codes and can’t get in.
Nintendo customer service’s answer was basically ‘tough, keep trying’. I wasted a whole day on it yesterday and still have no pre-order. This is one of the only Nintendo consoles I won’t have at launch. I am one very unhappy customer.
Ryan O’D
GC: There’s still time, stores like Argos and Amazon seem to be getting new stock in pretty regularly.
Virtual upgrade
Finally, the Switch 2 reveal and Direct have come to pass. This successor looks the part but I’m not quite sure whether I actually want one just yet. I tend to wait until well into a console’s lifespan before taking the plunge and I see this as being no different after the Direct. It seemed akin to a new iPhone reveal, where the differences are purely incremental.
Nothing wrong with building on a proven success but it’s just not enough to warrant an early adoption. I’ll wait a few years until I’ve let everyone else put it to the test, before I decide an upgrade is worth it. There are still so many great games that I’ve yet to play on my current model.
I’m in full agreement with what reader Owen Pile wrote about on Monday, in defence of high game prices compared to the cost of an activity that may only last a few hours for much the same cost.
I did write in after the Batman: Arkham Shadow review, questioning whether it was worth getting a Meta Quest 3 to play it, given the price I’ve paid for a disappointing holiday. In light of what I’ve seen of the Switch 2 and the emergence of Alien: Rogue Incursion, along with existing titles like Resident Evil 4 VR and Saints & Sinners 2, I’m now almost definitely going to put the money I’d ring fenced for an impulse Switch 2 purchase towards the Meta Quest 3.
My PlayStation VR needs an upgrade and upgrading to PlayStation VR2 just can’t be justified, given that I’m still using PlayStation 4 along with the fact that Sony seemed to abandon it soon after launch.
I know VR isn’t for everyone but I’m very much a fan of it. I’ve started researching the Meta Quest 3 in earnest now and reviews are positive. I’d gratefully appreciate any feedback on the unit from any readers that own one, before I click on the payment button.
D Dubya
GC: PlayStation VR2 doesn’t work with the PlayStation 4, you’d be buying a very expensive sleep mask.

Just a heads up that there’s hefty discounts on Jusant (£9), Cocoon (£12) and Gloomhaven (£15) on PSN at the moment, if you fancy playing something good without splashing too much cash.
Matt (He_who_runs_away – PSN ID)
GC: Jusant and Cocoon are great, we strongly recommend them.
Apparently the Switch 2 Enhanced Edition games contain the game and update on the cartridge, and are native Switch 2 games.
LoRd SiNn
GC: We’ve tried to clarify this with Nintendo, but they won’t offer any confirmation or denial. Once there’s a definitive answer we’ll do a story on it.

A widow determined to stay on the same street she’s lived on for over 60 years has rebuilt her family home on Grand Designs.
The latest episode of the Channel 4 series followed Kathryn, who undertook an ambitious project aged 82.
A year after the death of her husband Jon, she decided she could no longer live in their family home.
The couple had moved into their 4-bedroom Edwardian house in Barnet, North London in 1965, where they went on to raise their two children (their daughter was even born in one of the upstairs bedrooms).
However, after the death of her husband, she’d been struggling to live there, especially with the number of stairs that she was finding increasingly difficult to climb.
‘It has lovely memories, but I think I’ve come to the end of my time here,’ she said.
‘I have an urgent need to move as I can’t look after the house…I know I’ve got to move.’
‘But if I were to leave this street I would feel desolate.’
Not wanting to give up living on a street she’d loved for so long, Kathryn came up with an audacious plan to build a new, accessible, ultra- sustainable home right next door where a garage and extension had sat.
It was planned to be a mirror image of her current home, but with a 21st century twist.
With everything she needed to be built on the first floor, the second level would provide extra rooms for her family.
The project had a budget of £607,000, but as always, the build faced several issues and spiralling costs, including eye-watering fees just to connect basic services (which ended up costing £50,000).
However, a year and three weeks after the work began, the home was finished.
After tuning in, many viewers shared their thoughts on the final result.
‘Best one ever. At least it’s not like a. Village hall, b. glasshouse c. concrete cold interior designed house,’ Sue posted on X.
‘What a lovely property, wishing Kathryn many years of happiness in her new home,’ Chris shared on Instagram.
‘What a great project, and an inspiring lady transforming life. Wishing her all the happiness in her new home.’
Within a few hours of being put up for sale, the family home of 60 years was snapped up by a young family who were already living nearby.
Speaking about her new home, Kathryn said she ‘felt at home’ and was ‘very pleased’.
Meanwhile host Kevin McCloud said it was ‘the most beautiful place to walk into’, highlighting the open-plan living space and massive skylight.
Despite the entire build going way over budget (it cost between £800,000-£900,000), Kathryn was glad it had all come together.
‘I think it’s a beautiful building and I am really looking forward to spending the rest of my life here,’ she said.
As Kevin said at the end of the episode: ‘She gets to stay on the street she’s lived on for over half a century. What price do you put on all that?’
Grand Designs airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Channel 4.

Mickey Rourke’s future on Celebrity Big Brother is at risk after he was chosen by Jojo Siwa as a killer nomination ahead of the first live eviction.
The Hollywood actor, 72, has sparked fury from viewers after numerous incidents in the first few days of the ITV reality series.
During the launch episode, he left people horrified over his behaviour towards host AJ Odudu, after he grabbed her and pulled her towards him before eyeing her up and down.
His actions were branded ‘creepy’ and ‘vile’, with some even saying it was ‘harassment’.
Just 48 hours later, Rourke was given a warning by Big Brother for using a homophobic slur.
While speaking to popstar Siwa, 21, he made comments about her sexuality, beginning the conversation by saying: ‘If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.’
He then said he would ‘vote out the lesbian real quick’, and said he needed a ‘fag’, meaning a cigarette, while gesturing to Siwa, adding: ‘I’m not talking to you.’
He later apologised for his comments, after being told his language was ‘offensive and unacceptable’.
Viewers have claimed the warning simply isn’t enough, calling for him to be removed, and their wish may be about to come true.
After being granted the power of a killer nomination, Siwa put Rourke’s future on the show at risk, explaining: ‘I choose to killer nominate Mr Mickey.
‘Mickey’s comments towards me were effective and he said some pretty hurtful things.
‘And I think one thing you really have to do in the Big Brother house is care about others, and him saying that flat out today honestly made the killer nomination choice pretty easy.’
She then added: ‘I feel like a lot of the public isn’t going to be too happy with Mickey after seeing how this day went so I do think it’s possible that he could be evicted from the house.
‘But his time being cut short, that is the best case scenario for me.’
Recent odds have also revealed Rourke is tipped to be kicked out the house by ITV before the first public eviction.
Data from Card Player, using Brandwatch social listening, shows the Sin City star received a flood of negative reaction following his actions towards Odudu, before the homophobic comment he made.
Rourke’s mentions on X were 31% negative, compared to just 11% positive, leaving him with a net sentiment score of -20% – the worst of any housemate by a clear margin, the data reveals.
Card Player have subsequently priced Rourke at 6/4 to be removed from the house by ITV or Big Brother before the public get the chance to vote.
Spokesperson for Card Player, Liam Solomon, said: ‘Mickey Rourke’s explosive start has certainly grabbed headlines, but not in the way he might’ve hoped.

‘The numbers show just how unpopular he’s been with UK audiences – scoring well below every other housemate in terms of social sentiment since the programme started, including fellow controversy magnets like JoJo Siwa and Michael Fabricant.
‘With odds of 6/4 to be removed by ITV, it’s now a waiting game to see whether producers intervene or if Rourke can turn public opinion around.’
Rourke had earlier claimed he wasn’t convinced he’d last more than four days in the Celebrity Big Brother house.
After his warning from Big Brother, he apologised to Siwa, saying: ‘I don’t have dishonourable intentions – I’m just talking smack you know. I wasn’t taking it all so serious. I didn’t mean in it any bad intentions and if I did, sorry.’
This comes after Rourke revealed his intention for signing up to the programme – despite having never watched the show before.
‘It was between this or a really bad independent movie, and I’ve had it up to here with really bad independent movies.
‘So I said, you know what? Let’s go do that thing in England. I want to go to London anyway.
‘I know nothing about this show. I’m not worried — I don’t care about any bad habits I might have for the world to see,’ he told The Sun.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV1.
