Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins has declared ‘we know the UK won’t win’ Eurovision a month before it begins.
The long-running contest kicks off in a few weeks, taking place this year in Basel, Switzerland after Swiss musician Nemo’s victory in 2024.
This year, country-pop girl group Remember Monday are representing the UK with their entry song being What the Hell Just Happened?
However, it was recently revealed that bookies have given them 4-1 chances of finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard.
Soon after the group – which consists of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele – said they were ‘not doing it for the points’.
A few weeks on the UK entrants have faced more commentary about their chances of winning.
On Monday’s episode of GMB, hosts Richard Madeley and Charlotte interviewed Sweden’s act for the 2025 contest – music and comedy group Kaj.
The trio (Kevin Holmström, Axel Åhman, and Jakob Norrgård) are one of the favourites to win with their song Bara bada bastu.
At the end of the chat, Richard told them ‘you’ve got to win!’, with one of the band members then replying: ‘Or you!’.
However, Charlotte then declared: ‘I think we know the UK aren’t going to win. We’ve ruled them out already. But I wish them the very best of luck.’
But Richard then told her off, saying her comments were ‘deeply unpatriotic’.
‘No no, I wish them the best of luck, but we know it never happens,’ she explained.
‘It’s very difficult isn’t it.’
However, in the closing minutes of the show, Charlotte went on to apologise.
‘I quickly want to squeeze in a mention because we spoke to Kaj, the Eurovision entry for Sweden, before. I just want to also play a teeny clip of our UK entry because I feel bad saying we know we aren’t going to win, but I think we all know when it comes to the UK, it’s a tall order,’ she said.
Meanwhile Richard added it was ‘nothing against the band’.
‘I think whatever act we had, we weren’t going to win,’ she added.
However, in the closing minutes of the show, Charlotte went on to apologise.
Although Sam Ryder came runner- up in 2022, the UK has historically struggled to place well in Eurovision.
Not including his result, the UK has been stuck in the bottom half of the leader board for a decade.
Last year Olly Alexander also placed 18th, with his performance also getting ‘nul points’ (zero) in the public vote.
That was the third time the UK had faced a total lack of support from voters, the same previously also happening in 2003 and 2021.
After last year’s disappointing results, Metro spoke to several PR and music experts, who offered advice on what the UK could do to turn its luck around.
‘We need to do some old-school music scouting to find someone who doesn’t have an established career,’ Rachel McGrath explained.
Meanwhile brand and culture expert Nick Ede agreed, saying well-known names should ideally be avoided as it ‘doesn’t seem to work and can be quite humiliating for the talent if they don’t do well’.
He also suggested rebooting a contest in which the UK public could vote on which act to send.
‘We need to go back to basics and bring back the competition, so the public have a say,’ he said.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1. The Eurovision Song Contest takes place from Tuesday May 13 to Saturday May 17.

TVAimee Lou Wood has blasted Saturday Night Live over a recent skit poking fun at her appearance.
The White Lotus actress has branded the sketch – which featured SNL performer Sarah Sherman wearing oversized prosthetic teeth while doing an impression of the 31-year-old star – as ‘mean and unfunny’.
In a series of posts on her Instagram Story, Aimee cleared up a situation with TV studio HBO and insisted they have been ‘nothing but supportive’ of her.
However, she said: ‘But whilst in honest mode, I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny.’
She continued: ‘Such a shame cos’ I had such a great time watching it a couple of weeks ago. Yes, take the p**s for sure — that’s what the show is about. But there must be a cleverer, more nuanced and less cheap way?
The so-called White Potus sketch over the weekend featured Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson), Melania Trump (Chloe Fineman) and others alongside Aimee’s White Lotus castmate Jon Hamm as Robert F. Kennedy Jr in the style of Walton Goggins’ Rick character.
Jon, as RFK Jr., asked: ‘I’ve been having these insane ideas, like what if we took all the fluoride out of the drinking water? What would that do to people’s teeth?’
Sarah showed a huge set of teeth, and replied: ‘Fluoride? What’s that?’
Fans have rallied behind Aimee – which has made her ‘glad [she] said something’ rather than staying quiet – and one follower pointed out that ‘everyone else in that parody was a political figure’.
‘Correct,’ Aimee reposted, while someone else criticised Sarah’s ‘terrible’ attempt at a Mancunian accent.
The Sex Education star agreed: ‘At least get the accent right, seriously. I respect accuracy even if it’s mean.’
She has since claimed: ‘I’ve had apologies from SNL’.

var placeholder = container.querySelector(‘.metro-video-player__up-next-placeholder’);

container.classList.add(‘metro-video-player–related-videos-loaded’);
});
Aimee also pointed out that being made fun of in a ‘clever’ way ‘in good spirits’ is fine, but the SNL skit didn’t feel that way.
She wrote: ‘I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the p**s out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth.
‘I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.’
She also clarified she wasn’t ‘hating on’ Sarah for doing the skit, but rather ‘hating on the concept’.
And in a final post on the matter, she shared a comment from a fan who said ‘it was a sharp and funny skit until it suddenly took a screeching turn into 1970’s misogyny’, while she replied: ‘This sums up my view.’
In a recent interview with GQ, Aimee admitted she felt insecure when she heard that White Lotus showrunner Mike White had to ‘fight’ to cast her.
‘I just spiraled about it because of my own imposter syndrome. That was my point,’ she clarified on Instagram. ‘Just really wanted to clear that up because hbo have been nothing but super supportive.’
Meanwhile, in the GQ interview she also opened up about the interest in her teeth, noting while she’s ‘really happy that it’s symbolising rebellion and freedom’, there is a line.
‘The whole conversation is just about my teeth, and it makes me a bit sad because I’m not getting to talk about my work. They think it’s nice because they’re not criticising,’ she said.
‘And, I have to go there… I don’t know if it was a man would we be talking about it this much? It’s still going on about a woman’s appearance.’
Metro has contacted reps for Sarah Sherman and SNL for comment.

Comparatively cheap
I don’t think there should be any doubt that GTA 6 is going to cost at least $100/£100. It’s the way the industry’s going and Rockstar Games know they can charge literally whatever they want and that game would sell. If it was £200 and looked like GTA 1 it’d still sell, at least for a little time, until word got out.
I think that Nintendo has just been a bit unlucky in having to go first in announcing their prices but I suspect that within a year or two they will be seen as being the cheap option as usual. Mario Kart World is still less than Call Of Duty and EA Sports is already and Donkey Kong costing less shows to me that Nintendo will try to make all of their games as cheap as possible, depending on how much they cost to make. They might never discount their games but they’ve never tried to rip people off with the base price.
I know they don’t look like they’re being the generous ones at the moment, but when GTA 6 gives Ubisoft and EA the courage to make everything £100 I think that will change. As was said in the Reader’s Feature over the weekend, this is all a response to games costing more to make. And it’s the dumbest most unhelpful response imaginable – and also the most predictable one.
Tolly
The only way is up
In response to Taylor Moon’s post over the weekend, he is pretty much spot on about the pricing. You know Rockstar is going to release GTA 6 at at least £80… but the only way to force the prices down a bit is to not buy it or any others that seem to be overpriced. Once they realise a lot of people are not buying they will drop the prices.
People just need to either pay it and stop moaning about it or wait it out, out of principle, and if enough people do that it will force a price rethink… but will people do it? I doubt it, people like to moan about pricing but will soon cough up when the Switch 2 is released.
And that is why the prices are going up and will probably hit £90 regularly before you know it.
Stew
Digital future
I’m in two minds about the Switch and Switch 2 not supporting analogue shoulder buttons but I think overall it’s a good thing. Racing games are really the only genre that suffers and yet not only is the Switch 2 unlikely to have a Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport equivalent but if you were that into serious racing games you’d just buy a wheel (or, more likely, just play it on a PC).
I’ve played a lot of games where it’s obvious the trigger buttons are not reacting instantly, when all you want is a simple, digital on/off style response. If I was a controller designer and a Nintendo developer told me they wanted digital shoulder buttons I don’t think I’d argue with them either; they are the experts after all.
I’m more curious what these new buttons at the back of the Pro Controller 2 are going to be for, because I haven’t heard of any game that actually uses them. Was there one, in anything you played, GC?
Everwayne
GC: They weren’t used for anything we’ve played. We think they idea is they have no function by default and it’s always up to you to program them in whatever way you want.

Competing with yourself
I’m probably one of many people who checked out the remastered version of the Mafia game released on Game Pass recently. I found it equal parts enjoyable and frustrating but came away looking forward to the next game, which I envisioned as being properly open world, with much more ability to interact with its setting.
The news that it’s to be released towards the end of the year, possibly fairly close to GTA 6, seems to me to be terrible luck. If the developers improve on all the obvious areas they needed to from the last game (which I believe they will) the one thing I really feel the game needs is a clear path to find an audience.
I can’t believe it will have that now. while everyone is basically waiting around for firm information on GTA 6’s release date. So my fear is that the game is about to get swallowed up again through no fault of its own. I hope I’m wrong about that because it has huge potential.
Chris
GC: The irony is that publisher Take-Two also owns Rockstar Games.
Switching priorities
Do you think what is happening with the US and tariffs will means it will be harder for those outside the US to get a Switch 2? With a 90 day reprieve for Vietnam and Cambodia (where the Switch 2 is made) it means Nintendo just might send as many units as they can to the US now, in order to stockpile in the US. Meaning there are less available elsewhere, who they can supply with later shipments.
As a business this would make the most sense in order to do as much as possible to maintain control over what they’re able to charge, but will mean an item that is harder to stock.
Simon
GC: That does seem likely, and reports suggest Nintendo has already shipped over a million consoles to the US. However, it’s almost certainly not something they’ll discuss openly.
Bad introduction
That £100 The Last Of Us set is an absolute disgrace. As you pointed out, the games can easily be bought for half that price right now and the digital edition doesn’t give you anything extra on top anyway. I know it’s just Sony taking advantage of interest in the series, because of the show, but what kind of message is this sending casual and non-gamers?
That video games are ridiculously expensive and then, once you realise you’ve been conned, that publishers love to rip you off and take advantage of you not being 100% clued in to how the industry works? If I was a new gamer buying that and found out I think I’d just never vow to buy a video game again, or at least revert to only indie games/only heavily discounted sales.
I know it’s just businesses being businesses but how short sighted can you be? If I was in charge of Sony I would’ve made the set unusually cheap, thrown in a few extras, and then tempted people into trying out some other Sony first party titles. This has basically the opposite effect. They’ll be so skint after buying this one compilation they’ll probably never buy another game all year, and they’ll think twice about that one.
Focus
You’ll miss them when they’re gone
Having to sell off their office furniture is such a sad and pathetic end for GAME. I know that’s what happens to any business in the end but it’s strangely upsetting to hear about. They were far from perfect but I think we could have done a lot worse for our major high street store.
Now they’re effectively gone – does anyone bother using their website? – and it’s virtually impossible to wander into a high street shop and just browse some video games. You’re more likely to be able to find some old SNES game in a retro shop than you are the latest copy of Assassin’s Creed or whatever. It’s a shame and I really don’t think we’re gained anything from their fall.

Arcade at some homes
As an arcade racer fan, the nicest surprise from the Switch 2 reveal was that Ridge Racer and F-Zero GX would be available day one.
The 32-bit consoles are credited with bringing the arcade into the home but in truth the home ports fell somewhat short of their arcade big brother’s quality. Ridge Racer on Switch 2 is the first time an arcade perfect port will be available on home consoles.
Digital distribution takes with one hand, in delisting the digital-only release of the excellent PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 port of Daytona USA, but gives with the other, with Virtua Racing and Ridge Racer on Switch.
To be fair, there’s a good selection of legitimate ways to access classic games now in the home. The Arcade Archives selection on console, Ridge Racer is the first release of the second wave of those, labelled Arcade Archives 2.
Capcom have done great work and there’s Antstream Arcade.
But, obviously, there’s lots of gaps and it would be nice if it wasn’t so spread out. Virtua Racing is still exclusive to Switch, I believe.

Inbox also-rans
All this talk about Capcom being super rich now but all I want to see from them is a Resident Evil 9 reveal, it’s been ages? Do you think it will be unveiled and released this year?
Korbie
GC: A reveal this year is pretty likely, but we’d say a launch had a less than 50% chance.
I see the rumours about Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch 2 came true, but I’m interested as to whether this will be Square Enix and Nintendo as best buddies again. They seem natural allies to me, much more than Sony, but will we see exclusives and preferential treatment? (I know no one knows, I’m just thinking out loud).

Mickey Rourke has been spotted for the first time since his disastrous turn on Celebrity Big Brother (Picture: Click News and Media) Mickey Rourke has been pictured for the first time since he was asked to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house after a series of incidents […]
TVMickey Rourke has been pictured for the first time since he was asked to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house after a series of incidents involving inappropriate language and unacceptable behaviour.
The Hollywood star, 72, was saved from eviction on Friday with Michael Fabricant booted out of the house instead after a public vote.
A Celebrity Big Brother rep later said: ‘Mickey Rourke has agreed to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House this evening following a discussion with Big Brother regarding further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour.’
This comes after Rourke sparked backlash over his ‘creepy’ behaviour towards host AJ Odudu during the launch of Celebrity Big Brother last week, as well as a warning from producers about homophobic language following vile comments he made to Jojo Siwa.
And on Saturday, his behaviour and language to Love Island star Chris Hughes during a disagreement in a task was considered to be threatening and physical, though no physical altercation took place.
Now, the former boxer was seen looking disheveled outside a hotel, holding a takeaway coffee, flanked by a companion also wearing a hoodie.

Wearing dark shades and looking like his time in the house took its toll, Mickey sported a grey hoodie and bright red shoes as he perched on the steps outside the hotel.
In a preview ahead of tonight’s episode, which airs at 10pm due to a schedule shake-up, details have emerged about what exactly went down in the house that resulted in Rourke making the early exit.
This weekend, all housemates gathered in the garden for a pirate-themed task, JoJo Siwa was assigned the role of Captain and put in charge of steering the ship.
JoJo said: ‘Ahoy! How have things been going out here?’
Trisha Goddard responded: ‘There is a rat amongst us, Captain.’
Reality star Chris Hughes then stepped out of line and looked at Mickey, as if to suggest he was the rat. As the former boxer also stepped forward, he confronted Chris.
‘Stick up for me,’ Chris whispered to Corrie star Jack P. Shepherd, standing beside him, seemingly sensing that things were about to get tense.
‘You looking at me?’, Mickey began.
JoJo said to Mickey: ‘Ahoy! You’re not the Captain of this ship. Ahoy! Back up, soldier.’
Ignoring her demands, Mickey told Chris: ‘Don’t eyeball me.’
‘Mickey, it was a joke, f***ing…’, Chris responded before being cut off.
‘Don’t f***ing eyeball me, you c**t,’ Mickey shot back.
Danny Beard and JoJo then both attempted to diffuse the situation, with drag queen Danny insisting to Mickey that Chris was larking around.
‘F***ing stand there,’ Chris directed at Mickey, nodding towards the line as if to tell him to step back.
‘What did he say?’, Mickey asked.
‘He was joking,’ Danny said.
The Drag Race winner and Olympian Daley Thompson came between Mickey and Chris to calm them down, while Chris repeated that he meant no offence.
Big Brother soon piped up, ordering Mickey to go to the Diary Room ‘immediately.’
Eventually, after a scolding from Big Brother for his behaviour, Rourke apologised.
There seemed to be issues with Rourke from the start. During Monday’s launch, before entering the house, Rourke left people horrified when he grabbed Odudu and pulled her towards him before eyeing her up and down.
His actions were branded ‘creepy’ and ‘vile’, with some even saying it was ‘harassment’, and there were calls for him to be axed from the show already.
He was later given a warning by Big Brother for using a homophobic slur against popstar Siwa, 21, after saying: ‘If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.’
She went on to give him a killer nomination after the horrific comments he made, leaving many fans convinced he would be the one evicted on the next vote.
Siwa’s partner and mother also spoke out, condemning his comments and inclusion in the programme.
On Celebrity Big Brother 2025, Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke sparked uproar with homophobic comments that he made towards internet sensation JoJo Siwa.
Speaking in the House, Rourke, 72, asked Siwa, 21: ‘So do you like girls or boys?’
‘Me? Girls,’ Siwa answered, to which Rourke responded: ‘I know, I could tell.’
After the dancer shared that her partner is non-binary, the housemates who were in the garden started to talk about the eviction due to take place that week on Friday night.
‘If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore,’ Rourke remarked, as Siwa said back to him: ‘I can guarantee I will still be gay and I will still be in a very happy relationship.’
‘I’ll tie you up,’ The Wrestler actor replied.
‘I can promise you that won’t happen,’ Siwa stated. ‘I dare you to try, you’ll be the one tied up.’
Rourke then spoke to some other housemates, asking about the process of voting out other contestants on Celebrity Big Brother.
‘I’m going to vote the lesbian out real quick,’ he said, as Siwa – who was lying on a sun lounger – turned her head towards him and declared: ‘That’s homophobic.’
‘Eh?’ Rourke asked, as Siwa continued: ‘That’s homophobic if that was your reasoning.’
After the actor repeated that he was going to ‘vote the lesbian out’, he then used a slang word beginning with f to say that he wanted a cigarette.
However, he then gestured towards Siwa and quipped: ‘Not talking to you,’ seemingly referencing the f word that’s used as an anti-gay slur.
Love Island star Chris Hughes, who was sitting next to Rourke, told him: ‘You can’t say that Mickey,’ while Siwa kept her composure and said: ‘One breath at a time troops, one breath at a time.’
After Hughes repeated his warning to Rourke, the actor insisted that he had been talking about a cigarette before walking off on his own.
The reality TV star went over to check on Siwa, consoling her as she cried in his arms over the upset. At the same time, Rourke was called to the Diary Room, where he received a formal warning for his remarks.
Later on inside the lounge, Rourke went over to Siwa as he told her: ‘I want to apologise,’ telling her that he has a ‘bad habit of having a short fuse’.
‘I don’t mean nothing by it. Ok sorry,’ he said as he shook her hand, while she told him that she appreciated his apology.
Rourke’s homophobic comments towards Siwa happened a day after he was criticised for touching presenter AJ Odudu ‘inappropriately’ on stage.

He elsewhere made EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer burst into tears in the Diary Room, after criticising her cooking skills, saying: ‘What do you know, you can’t cook.’
Rourke had made it clear that he didn’t think he would last in the Celebrity Big Brother house for more than four days, with politician Fabricant telling Odudu and Will Best during Late and Live that Rourke ‘didn’t want to be there’.
During Friday’s eviction night, the Sin City star told his housemates: ‘I’m not good around crowds of people I don’t know and I don’t like being told what to do.’
Days earlier, he had told Trisha Goddard about going on the show, saying: ‘I thought let me just try something new. I decided to isolate and live alone and not have any relationships about six years ago. So, a lot of good stuff is coming to me from just being alone.’
‘This is not easy here for me,’ he added.

A Celebrity Bake Off star was forced to pull out of the Channel 4 show after winding up in hospital following a fall.
On April 13, 2025, TV presenter Gloria Hunniford, 85, actor Jim Howick, 45, comedian Jamali Maddix, 33, and model Ellie Goldstein, 23, entered the tent for the Stand Up to Cancer spin-off.
Under the guidance of new judge Lady Caroline Waldegrave, 72, who has replaced Dame Prue Leith, 85, on the celebrity version, and Paul Hollywood, 59, the four stars whipped up their best baking creation.
But just after completing the final round, Gloria exited the competition as, according to Alison Hammond, she had started to feel unwell.
Gloria later revealed on the Bake Off Instagram that she had to leave the tent before the showstopper because she had fallen and needed to visit the hospital.

‘I just wanted to say how much I really, really enjoyed being on Bake Off, Gloria explained.’It was fun. It was interesting meeting Paul.’
‘It was a real shame that I missed being there for the showstopper because unfortunately I had a fall and I ended up in hospital for some screening, but I was fine.’
Following Gloria’s video there was an outpouring of support from fans online, praising her baking skills and wishing her a speedy recovery.
‘Thank you for the update her cake looked fabulous. Glad she was ok,’ wrote Glittermaysiebug. While Louise Brady added: ‘Gloria you were fabulous to watch.’
Meanwhile, Loose Women panellist Ruth Langford commented: ‘You were wonderful….your Dad would be very proud of your Magician’s cake I’m sure.’
Co-presenter Noel Fielding, 51, stood in her place and received the feedback on her cake.
As they discussed the celebrities’ culinary talents, co-host Alison Hammond, 50, commented: ‘Such a shame that Gloria didn’t feel very well.’

Jim was ultimately crowned star baker.
In January, it was announced that Lady Caroline would be taking over from long-time friend Dame Prue on Celebrity Bake Off.
It came after Dame Prue revealed she was taking a break from the celebrity version to free up time for other passions.
However, she will remain as a judge on the original and US shows.
‘[The one] I’m not doing this year is the celebrity one and it’s mainly because these things are filmed back-to-back the whole way through the summer,’ Dame Prue said on This Morning in 2024.
She added: ‘You start in April, and you end in August and honestly, you get no time off. And so, I’m getting a bit old and there are places I want to go to and other things I want to do.’
Bake Off fans have praised Lady Caroline on X, with @Liabrx_73 sharing: ‘Welcome Caroline Waldegrave …a lovely addition to the GBBO family!’
When she first joined the show, @Joanring1 commented: ‘Great show. Well done Caroline on your Bake Off debut.👏.’
Lady Caroline and Dame Prue co-founded Leiths School of Food and Wine, one of the most prestigious and respected cookery schools in the country
The school’s former managing director, Lady Caroline retired in 2009 and became a non-executive director on the board and was also chairman of the Guild of Food Writers for several years.
Since then, she has ‘focused on imparting her wealth of cookery knowledge’ at Dudwell School, which is located on the site of her family home, Dudwell Field Farm. She’s also a director of the family’s organic dairy farm.
Over the years, Lady Caroline has appeared on TV shows including Chef School, MasterChef and Tricks of the Trade, and authored several cookbooks including Leith’s Cookery Bible.
Earlier this year, there was also concern Noel would not return to Bake Off after his Apple TV+ show, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, was cancelled mid-production due to his ill health.
Although bosses were reported to have been hosting ‘crisis talks’, Noel’s representatives confirmed to Metro that he would be returning to the series as planned.
Other stars competing on Celebrity Bake Off this year include the creator of Chicken Shop Date Amelia Dimoldenberg, TV presenter and broadcaster Kate Garraway, Goodness Gracious Me star Meera Syal and comedian Phil Wang.
They are joined by podcaster Sarah Beeny, comedian Adam Buxton, sibling duo Scarlette and Stuart Douglas, Bafta winner Gbemisola Ikumelo and radio presenter Roman Kemp.
Completing the line-up are Dinnerladies icon Maxine Peake, broadcasting duo Chris and Rosie Ramsey, music artist Self Esteem, Derry Girls actor Tommy Tiernan and British actor Sophie Willan.
Celebrity Bake Off is available to stream on Channel 4.

TVGreat British Bake Off star Laura Adlington has revealed she is pregnant with her first baby after nearly a decade of infertility.
The 36-year-old reached the final of the Channel 4 cooking competition series in 2020, with Peter Sawkins becoming the youngest ever winner, aged 20.
Laura previously spoke about her difficulties conceiving with her husband Matt in 2022 when she was told by doctors to lose 14 stone to qualify for IVF.
On Instagram today, the body positivity and confidence campaigner announced she was ‘a little bit in shock’ to be having their first ‘miracle’ child.
She shared a picture of herself and Matt holding ultrasound scans alongside their pet dog and revealed she was expecting their baby in October after ‘nine years of infertility.’

A compassionate Laura began her social media post with a trigger warning to people currently struggling to have children and told them to ‘mute and unfollow’ her if her update was ‘painful.’
She then detailed her ‘really long and lonely road’ to starting a family, revealing she had ‘made peace’ with the idea she and Matt may not be able to have children.
Over the past 18 months, Laura said she and Matt began the process of IVF, which they did not share with the public or family members to alleviate pressure.
She added: ‘We had an unsuccessful round and a cancelled round, and then found out a couple of months ago that I was finally pregnant.
‘I’ll be sharing a bit more over the coming weeks about our journey to get here but for now we’re just really excited to share our news with you all. We honestly can’t believe our luck.’
Laura received a deluge of congratulatory messages, including from fellow Bake Off star John Whaite, who wrote: ‘Wahhhh this is amazing. Huge congrats lovely xx.’

Strictly Come Dancing star and comedian Ellie Taylor wrote: ‘Oh SISTER!!! THRILLLLLLLED!!!!!’
Metro columnist Em Clarkson added: ‘So delighted for you.’
Body positivity influencer Alex Light also wrote: ‘I am BEYOND happy for you 🥹🥹🥹 the best news!!!!!!!!’
In 2022, Laura said she was instructed by doctors to lose 14st to qualify for IVF after struggling with infertility.
She added that she tried to lose weight and even considered weight loss surgery, but realised that it was not the right decision for her.
‘It was difficult — people say we obviously didn’t want it enough because I would have lost the weight to have the IVF.
‘But it was such a lot to lose — about 14st and I just struggled to do that,’ Laura added to The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine.
The TV star said that the ‘heartache of really wanting and it not happening’ was the ‘hardest thing I’ve ever gone through.
‘I felt like if I couldn’t be a mum, what’s the point? I’d always wanted to be a mother and it wasn’t happening.’
After Bake Off, Laura pivoted into a career as a body positivity advocate, winning the wellness category at The British Podcast Awards in 2023 for her podcast Go Love Yourself with Lauren Smith.
‘The way you look is the least interesting thing about you,’ Laura previously told Metro.

TVJean Marsh, the actress who was both the co-creator and Emmy-winning star of Upstairs, Downstairs in the 1970s, has died aged 90.
The iconic performer died on Sunday at her home in London.
Her close friend, the filmmaker Michael Lindsay-Hogg, said she died of complications with dementia.
The show ran from 1971 to 1975 in England and from 1974 to 1977 in the United States, ultimately earning seven Emmy awards and a Peabody award.
The show depicted the lives of the Bellamy family and the staff of servants who kept their Belgravia townhouse running smoothly in Edwardian England.
Marsh played the head parlor maid, a stern but lovable Cockney who became a fan favourite and earned her the the 1975 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Born as Lyndsay Torren Marsh on July 1, 1934, in London, the actress came from a working class background.
‘If you were very working class in those days, you weren’t going to think of a career in science,’ Marsh explained to The Guardian in 1972. She saw herself as having two options: ‘You either did a tap dance or you worked in Woolworth’s.’
Marsh also co-created the television series The House of Eliott in 1991 and appeared in films including Cleopatra in 1963, Frenzy in 1972, The Eagle Has Landed in 1976, The Changeling in 1980, Return to Oz in 1985, Willow in 1988, Fatherland in 1994, and Monarch in 2000.
She was also a beloved member of the Doctor Who universe, known for roles including, Joan of England in The Crusade, then as Sara Kingdom, a companion of the First Doctor, and later a villain opposite the Seventh Doctor.
Marsh first thought of the idea for Upstairs, Downstairs when she and her good friend, actress Eileen Atkins, were house-sitting at a rich friend’s house in the South of France.
After telling Atkins she wished she could live in such luxury more often, Atkins told her to write down her idea for a show about the contrast between high class and low class people living in one house. The series made its debut in 1971.
Marsh was briefly married to Jon Pertwee, the third Doctor Who, from 1955 to 1960.

FilmThe director of A Minecraft Movie has been criticised by fans for seemingly encouraging the absolute chaos cinemas are facing during screenings.
Jared Hess shared his surprising take on the madness unfolding in cinema screenings of his latest film, where audience participation and reactions have been pushed to the extreme.
A number of cinemas have issued statements slamming audiences of A Minecraft Movie for ‘erupting into sheer pandemonium’ during the box office hit, with cinemagoers sharing footage of wild audience reactions from inside cinemas on social media.
In several instances, the police have even allegedly been called.
One moment in particular has seen fans screaming, cheering and even climbing on their friends’ shoulders in a clip that’s gone viral online.
Hess isn’t sharing the concerns of the cinemas – he’s finding the whole thing delightful.
‘It’s been so bananas,’ Hess told Entertainment Weekly.
@salesmenpod This whole night was surreal and one of the most unforgettable movie experiences I’ve ever had. . . #minecraft #movie #minecraftmovie #chicken #jockey #chickenjockey #fyp #viral #reaction #funny #meme #moviereview #featureme #clips #comedy #video #videogames #games #game
‘It’s been way too fun. People are sending me these really hilarious speeches that a lot of teenagers are giving right before the movie. It’s so hysterical, man. I’m staying up way too late.’
The film, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, has enjoyed one of the biggest-grossing weekends of 2025 so far.
Hess continued to EW: ‘It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called. It’s funny because I think it’s just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn. Yeah, it’s hilarious. I’ve seen so many funny videos. It’s great, especially when people are climbing on their friends’ shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments.
‘It’s like this crazy anticipation. But, man, I’m just glad people are making memories with their friends and families.’

});
However, his attitude has hit a nerve with many cinemagoers when it was discussed on a Reddit thread.
‘Well… lost a bit of respect for him then. Cheering at a theatre is one thing. You’re all fans, it’s a happy place for all of you. But jumping on each other’s shoulders, throwing popcorn around, doing stunts in front of the screen…come on… that’s just childish and disrespectful on a whole other level,’ posted Fuzzyfoot88.
‘I feel so bad for the movie theatre workers but the studio is LOVING this mayhem and they can’t WAIT to green light Minecraft 2 JUST in hopes of getting more free promo,’ suggested relientkenny.
‘Terrible response. That kind of behaviour has no place in the theatre. It ruins the experience for other people and makes life miserable for the employees,’ complained TheNameIsFrags, while aimlessdrivel suggested: ‘Theatres should charge more for deliberately rowdy showings and pay employees extra to handle cleaning.’
‘People are making memories… at other people’s expense,’ pointed out eiridan, while GodzillaUK echoed many people’s responses to Hess’s remarks by insisting: ‘Then by all means, give him a broom and let him clean it up. At every location.’
Others drew comparisons to other films that have historically prompted big reactions in cinemas.
‘Someone described it as this generations version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ wrote LayeredOwlsnest. ‘And I kinda get it honestly, the external memes and audience participation are part of the movie at this point.
‘But the mess is really unacceptable.’
In A Minecraft Movie, four friends – Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) – are struggling to fit in when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, the land of the popular videogame.
The sequence that is causing problems for cinema staff involves Black and Momoa confronting a cuboid Minecraft chicken being ridden by another character that looks like a baby Frankenstein.
‘Chicken jockey!’ yells Black, in a moment that saw one theatre full of fans start screaming, throwing popcorn, turning on their torches, leaping to their feet and shouting.
‘My theatre clapped every time Jack Black name dropped a Minecraft item that was in the trailers, and when he said Chicken Jockey I s**t you not the entire row in front of me gave a standing ovation,’ shared cinemagoer @Schaffrillas on X.
‘When Jack Black said “Chicken Jockey,” the theatre erupted into sheer pandemonium. Kids were cheering, clapping and jumping onto the tops of seats. Whenever Jack Black sang, the kids would get up and start dancing in the aisles.
‘I was here and I couldn’t hear anything throughout the movie. Very disappointed in the Minecraft community,’ added LuCha in a reaction to footage of one these incidents on TikTok.
Metro has contacted reps for Jared Hess for comment.

TVCelebrity Big Brother 2025 star Chris Hughes is earning a legion of new fans for being an LGBTQ+ ally on the ITV show.
The former Love Island contestant has been praised for his compassion towards JoJo Siwa, 21, after she was the subject of vile homophobic comments from now-axed star Mickey Rourke.
Hughes was the only housemate to comfort Siwa after the exchange with Rourke, 72, and to educate the Hollywood actor on why his remarks were unacceptable.
In tonight’s episode, Rourke is ejected from Celebrity Big Brother after repeated warnings about his behaviour – and a fracas with Hughes in which he calls him a profanity.
Here is everything you need to know about Hughes, from his professional life, dealings with Rourke on Celebrity Big Brother and his love life.
Hughes first shot to fame as a contestant on the third season of Love Island in 2017.
On the ITV show, he was originally coupled up with Chloe Crowhurst, 28, but by the second week, he had moved on to Olivia Attwood, 33.
Hughes and Attwood finished in third place on Love Island, and their romance continued outside of the villa.
During his time on Love Island, he also struck up a friendship with Kem Cetinay, 28.
The duo, under the name Chris & Kem, briefly embarked on a music career, scoring a UK number 15 hit with Little Bit Leave It before disbanding.
In 2018, though, more TV work beckoned, and Hughes starred in reality TV show Chris and Olivia: Crackin’ On with his then-girlfriend Attwood and signed on for game show You Vs Chris & Kem.
He also published his debut book, My Life Story: You Bantering Me.
The following year, Hughes took a live testicular exam on This Morning to spread cancer awareness.
After watching the segment, Hughes’ brother Ben checked himself and found a lump, which doctors found to be cancerous.
He underwent surgery and was declared cancer-free.
The brothers later fronted documentary Me, My Brother, And Our Balls, with Ben saying: ‘Essentially Chris going on This Morning saved my life.’
Hughes is also a keen sportsman, having played football for Bourton Rovers FC and cricket for Bourton Vale CC.
He has presented live horse racing coverage with ITV Racing and BBC Sport coverage of The Hundred cricket tournament.
Last night, Celebrity Big Brother announced Rourke had been removed from the Celebrity Big Brother house after repeated warnings about offensive behaviour.
In a preview for tonight’s episode, ITV revealed that Rourke called Hughes a ‘c**t’ during a pirate-themed task.
During the game, Hughes stepped out and looked at Rourke when Trisha Goddard said: ‘There is a rat amongst us, Captain.’
‘You looking at me?’, Rourke began.

Siwa said to the Sin City actor: ‘Ahoy! You’re not the Captain of this ship. Ahoy! Back up, soldier.’
Ignoring her demands, Rourke told Hughe: ‘Don’t eyeball me.’
‘Mickey, it was a joke, f***ing…’, Hughes responded before being cut off.
‘Don’t f***ing eyeball me, you c**t,’ Rourke shot back.
After Siwa and Danny Beard attempted to diffuse the situation, Big Brother ordered Rourke to go to the Diary Room, where he was ordered to pack his bags.
Hughes has been single for the past three years, but has been in several high-status relationships.
After his romance ended with Attwood, he moved on with Little Mix star Jesy Nelson, 33.
However, their romance ended after 16 months with a source telling Metro the split was amicable and that their relationship had simply ‘run its course.’
Hughes then started dating professional golfer Annabel Dimmock, going official on Instagram with pictures from a date at Thorpe Park.
He has been single since their relationship ended in 2022.
However, Celebrity Big Brother viewers are convinced producers are trying to create a ‘showmance’ between him and newly single Ella Rae Wise.
On the launch episode, viewers noticed that as soon as reality TV star Ella entered the famous house, the cameras panned to Chris, indicating producers’ hopes that the pair will find love.
Most recently, the pair have hatched a plan to have a colonic together after the show ends.
Hughes was born on 22 December 1992 in Gloucestershire to Paul, a farmer, and Valerie Hughes, making him 32 years old.
He has one brother, Ben Hughes, as well as four half-brothers.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 10pm on ITV and ITVX.

TVThe reason behind Mickey Rourke’s removal from the Celebrity Big Brother house has been revealed as his inappropriate comments have come to light.
Last night, it was confirmed that the Hollywood star, 72, had been ejected from the ITV abode after repeated warnings about offensive behaviour.
A spokesperson said: ‘Mickey Rourke has agreed to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house this evening following a discussion with Big Brother regarding further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour.’
Now, in a preview ahead of tonight’s episode, which airs at 10pm due to a schedule shake-up, details have emerged about what exactly went down.
This weekend, the CBB house was transformed for a pirate-themed shopping task. As all housemates gathered in the garden, JoJo Siwa was assigned the role of Captain and put in charge of steering the ship.

‘He was joking,’ Danny assured.
The Drag Race winner and Olympian Daley Thompson came between Mickey and Chris to calm them down, while Chris repeated that he meant no offence.
Big Brother soon piped up, ordering Mickey to go to the Diary Room ‘immediately’.
Mickey pointed to the ground and said to Chris: ‘No, your a** will be right there in a second.’
Big Brother announced again: ‘Mickey, come to the Diary Room immediately.’ Mickey then headed to the Diary Room.
Following a conversation with Big Brother about his behaviour, Mickey returned to the garden and apologised to Chris before heading inside.
Chris said to other housemates: ‘Mickey’s just Mickey, you know what I mean?’
Ella Rae Wise responded: ‘It’s fine—you can be just someone, but be mindful of what it can trigger in other people, because it’s made me feel very uneasy.’
The Towie star, 24, proceeded to reference a comment Mickey made earlier in the day about how it made her uncomfortable.
She had earlier asked him: ‘Mickey come with me.’
Rourke replied: ‘What come in you?’
Wise was called into the Diary Room where she broke down in tears and said: ‘I don’t like the sexual jokes. I’m a young girl. I’m not a piece of meat. He’s making people feel really uneasy.
But the drama didn’t end there, as Mickey was later pulled back in for a chat with Big Brother, which would be his last.
‘Mickey, Big Brother needs to speak to you about your behaviour,’ he was told.
Big Brother continued: ‘Earlier today in a disagreement with Chris, your language and behaviour was threatening and aggressive. Big Brother does not tolerate threatening language or behaviour.
‘In addition, you have used inappropriate sexual language to Ella.’
Mickey replied: ‘Oh, I’m not aware of that, but OK.’
Big Brother added: ‘This language has caused offence to your fellow housemates and could cause offence to the viewing public.
‘This is not the first time Big Brother has had to speak to you about your offensive and inappropriate language.’
Mickey said: ‘Yes, sir. I did wrong. I apologise. I’m sorry. I can’t take it back, you know? I stepped over the line. And I take responsibility for doing the wrong thing. ‘Cause I lost my temper, and I’ve been trying to work on it my whole life, and I wish I would have had better self-control, and I’m very sorry.
‘I’m ashamed of myself for losing it for a few seconds there. Nobody got touched or hurt. Maybe some feelings got hurt, or maybe others have feelings about others getting upset, but you know, I’m sorry about that.’
Big Brother told him that bosses had ‘no option’ but to remove him from the house.
When asked if he had any final words, Mickey replied: ‘I blame myself; I know it was my bad. You know, I’ve got a short fuse, and I know I upset a lot of people out there, you know? And I’m sorry for that.
‘I’m actually ashamed of myself for getting that hot. I went over the line, you know? I did wrong.
‘I guess, like they say, I’m a work in progress. I just wanna pack my bags and leave, you know. I wanted to leave yesterday, actually, but I wasn’t chosen.’
Indeed, the action movie star was killer nominated by TikTok sensation JoJo, 21, and faced eviction on Friday along with soap icon Jack and former Tory MP Michael Fabricant. Ultimately, Michael became the first evictee of the series.
Mickey’s exit after less than a week inside the CBB house was the final straw, as he had already received warnings for inappropriate remarks.
On Wednesday, viewers were enraged when he told JoJo, who is a lesbian, that she ‘would not be gay anymore’ if he stayed in the house. He proceeded to use the F slur after stating, ‘I’m gonna vote out the lesbian.’
This caused his first run-in with Chris, who told him, ‘Mickey, you can’t say that,’ resulting in his ‘allyship’ being widely praised by audiences at home.
JoJo was visibly upset by the interaction, as she sobbed into Chris’s arms.
While she eventually received an apology from Mickey, his problematic behaviour did not cease there, as he would later insult Patsy Palmer’s cooking and body-shame Donna Preston by telling her, ‘You are what you eat.’
Viewers have taken to social media throughout the series thus far to express their anger towards Mickey, who was slammed on launch night for ‘creepily’ touching host AJ Odudu.
His removal means he will no longer receive the full £500,000 fee he was reportedly being paid for the appearance.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 10pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
